Real Football (Soccer to you Yanks) Thread

i just realised that a Canadian Legend Paul Peschisolido is married to one of the West Ham executive - Karren Brady
This I never knew.....

Hard luck on the result, was watching bits of it.

Barcelona 5-0 Almeria in the Copa Del Rey semi final first leg, that coupled with the 1-0 win for Real Madrid away at Sevilla means it could be a Barca-Real final.

Edwin Van der Sar has announced he will retire at the end of the season. While not totally unexpected, this news is sad, he's been a very fine goalkeeper in his six years at Man United and indeed everywhere else he's been. I think we will have to buy a keeper in the Summer because I'm not sure Lindegaard is ready to be number one, and Kuszack will always be a number two. I wouldn't mind Buffon, he's not that old in goakeeping terms.

Couple of bits of news.

Niko Kranjcar has turned down a move from Tottenham to Werder Bremen.

Wolves are interested in signing Jonathan Woodgate (Why?)

Liverpool have rejected a bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres, but according to Gullem Balague, he wants Liverpool to consider Chelsea's offer.

Yeah they have been after him for a good while.

Adebayor won't be staying at Real Madrid beyond the Summer either, he's only a stopgap while Real can sign Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao in the Summer. Basically the president's of both clubs have agreed to not negotiate until after the elections in the Summer. Initially Real wanted Van Nistelrooy back but Hamburg stopped it from happening. Also Benzema will probably leave in the Summer too.

Nice new 60,000 seater stadium for West Ham for 2014. Glad we won the bid.:thumbup:D Lots of sour grapes from Tottenham on the news made it even better. No idea why they think that ripping it down and locating two big clubs on the same tube line a couple of stops apart was going to win it for them. Leyton Orient are being just as pathetic. Apparently they believe that anyone who is loyal enough to watch their shit team week in week out will suddenly start going to watch West Ham because their ground will be a mile nearer to theirs. If I was an O's fan, I'd be insulted by their board!

if you go get some binoculars:D

But if West Ham are in the Championship by then, wouldn't it be a waste to see a 60,000 seater stadium half-empty? Unless West Ham are gonna do a Manchester City...

West Ham have been getting promoted and relegated for years without staying in the Championship for more than a couple of seasons, main reason being because of our excellent youth acadamy that produces such excellent players on cheap wages when the big names move on when we get relegated. Also West Ham supporters are a loyal bunch, our attendances dont go down when we do. We've never had a problem with half empty stadiums whatever division we're in and the amount of supporters on the waiting list is a testament to the fact we can fill a bigger stadium.
