What I think Bri is missing, is that rape typically isn't about sex, it's about power, retribution and humiliation.

So selling sex for money, and getting raped are two different ideologies entirely.

Rape is psychological, and physically abusive, but without choice.

We are talking about a man that rapes and kills... how sick/crazy can that be?

I think it is just as psychological damaging for prostitutes. The big deal I have with rape is that someone is using my body without my permission. I'd have no control and be helpless. I think for the most part, when they are on the job, they are in control. Even with a steady SO, if I say no, and we've done it a million times before but I say no this time and he does it anyway- it's rape and it's scary and it hurts inside and out.

I don't agree with you. I think when people are enterprising in the exploitation of their bodies the boundaries change. One could argue that just by being a prostitute, there is already psychological damage taking place. And really, on top of that, what's one little rape? Most prostitutes don't choose their lifestyle, but instead are forced into it either by coercion or by a lack of alternative income.

I went ahead and edited that for you :)

No need to assume there are hookers on this forum ;)

I'm not assuming there are. I was being facetious. Chances are none of us are familiar with exchanging sex for money, which really does not qualify any of us to make judgments on their behalf. Consider this: rape may be nothing more than a job hazard in this business.

That's a rather calloused view of it. To imply that rape is acceptable, or that it can be slightly overlooked because of lifestyle is really minimizing the fact that it's not right.

Hell I'll argue that prostitution is a victim less crime. Rape isn't

Well what I perhaps didn't point out so well in my earlier post, is that many prostitutes are selling their bodies against their own will. So there's a margin for gray area between the ideas of rape and prostitution. Money is being exchanged for the service, but the girl turning tricks may not have a choice.

I disagree...women and men exchange sex for money or goods every single day. It's just called marriage b/c it aint' done on the streets w/ strangers. *shrugs*

Okay, also not right;)

To victimize anyone crminally for your own retribution, or selfish gains is wrong....Period.

when you start talking straight criminal activity....There's no gray area. Wrong is wrong

So again marginalizing one crime because of the commission of another crime, doesn't make one any less damaging.

And I'm not addressing the high end, gentleman's clubs, Mustang Ranch, etc.

I'm talking about the night walkers who are offering $20 a blow and $30 a lay, and then getting slapped in the face by their pimps when that sweaty wad of bills isn't enough. These women are owned.

I never said that I believed that prostitutes would be less effected by rape

Yeah...no clue how any of us got THAT impression. :sarcasm

I was watching a show about a guy who was a serial murderer and rapist. He raped prostitutes, and sometimes murdered them. And it got me to thinking about the women crying about her rape on the tv, she is a prostitute right? She has sex with 50 strangers everyday, would it really be that upsetting to forcibly have sex once? He wasn't brutal or anything, just forced sex. Of course, he deserve to be punished just the same, but I'm not sure how much the prostitute was crying out of pain, or just for sympathy. And she wasn't a young either, like one of those old 50 year old ones. It would seem to me that it wouldn't effect her nearly as much as an average women....

And yet you have all gone on to try and make me wrong, when I had already agreed with you. It seems to me you all just wanted to feel right about this, and not really want to discuss anything in a civilized manner. The whole 'put others down, to make yourself feel better' kind of deal. Very childish of you all.

(except for Tim, as usual...)

I never called you out or put you down and I really don't appreciate being lumped into a group of them vs. me. I may not agree w/ people's opinions and it might physically cause my head to hurt to read some of the opinions I've read in the P&D section...but I still respect everyone's right to have that opinion, no matter how warped I might think it is (NOT directed at you...just in general).

The biggest and most obvious difference between the sex the prostitute is having for money and when she is raped is that her choice is being taken away. Her freewill, her autonomy and her basic fundamental freedom as a human to have ultimate jurisdiction over her own body.

she loses control of her own body the moment she gets a pimp.....he calls the shots

isn't prostitution humiliating anyway?

Yes you did!

I don't see how... I'd never pay for sex but I don't see how it can be humiliating. If you have the money to blow on a hooker and you can't get any i say go for it. Just bring five condoms to wear at once.
