The thing is, and Paul Merson mentioned this. Sir Alex at the start of the summer made his signings fairly early. He signed Young, Jones and De Gea either before or during the U-21 Euro's. Because he saw buying them early would get them a good pre season and it did. No offence to Villa but he's playing with a much higher quality of player here, and has not looked out of place once. Ditto Jones, and he was playing for Blackburn. De Gea looks a little more comfortable now. I don't blame him really for Walcott's goal, it wasn't a howler anyway, and he saved a penalty and made two excellent saves from Van Persie.
Now I don't completely blame Wenger for the Fabregas deal going on too long, but it is ridiculous that it did. Nobody can tell me that from the start of this Summmer nobody at Arsenal football club knew that he was leaving, because ultimately he was, and they couldn't make him stay because he'd had enough at Arsenal. And who has he really signed? Jenkinson? A young right back from Charlton is not going to improve a team. Gervinho could come good but it might have come too late even this early. Park Chu Young is similar. They need at least 4 new faces before Wednesday or they will be out of Europe by December and won't be in it next year.
I know Arsenal had a weakened side today but even had they not I wouldn't have feared them, because we were that good, and I truly believe with that formation, with that style, that we'd have won. Not as much as 8-2 because the experience would have gone up, but we'd have won. In short, when at full strengh, Arsenal are no longer a fear. They're a threat sure, but not a team I'd fear facing.
Wenger leaving now wouldn't make a bit of difference because there is literally no time for a new manager to ship players in/out. But is Wenger going to? Maybe, maybe not. Will it be the quality of player Arsenal need to get them back? probably not. They need to stop worrying about what the 'big spenders' are doing, and worry about the disgruntled fans chanting "Spend some fucking money"
