There is a giant difference between a reabilitated child molester (who wouldn't be able to work with children regardless) and a former porn star (was she an actual porn star, or did she just act in porn?)

People consider porn to be such a depraved thing to be involved in, but honestly? It doesn't mean that the people involved in it are depraved or terrible people or unable to function in "normal" society. Are you going to try to take this poor woman's children from her next? Because, heaven forbid, she may try to force her loose morals on sexuality on them!

She is certainly responsible for being in porn, but so what? She's also responsible for leaving that industry, for attempting to make an honest living. Give her some credit.

I agree 100%. For one, a child molester is different than a porn star, and second, even if it's a huge difference, what's to say a child molester absolutely can't change his ways either? My friend JR was labeled as a sex offender for the most bullshit reason I've ever heard of. One of his friends thought it would be funny to lock him in a shed with an underage girl, so his friend pushed them both into a shed and locked the door. If you knew this guy in person, you'd know he didn't do a damn thing, yet he's still labeled as a sex offender to this day. But that's off the subject. If it means complete nothingness that this woman CHOSE to stop being a porn star, and she turned her life around, and is now trying to be a valued member of society, then we live in a pretty fucked up world.

Lets use deductive logic and think this one all the way through. If she didn't lie, or even didn't admit to being a porn star in the past, then they would have already known of her history and not had to fire her upon enlightment of the truth (perhaps she would have never been hired in the first place, or if she was, then they would have known up front, either way it elimates this situation). In the interview you get asked in some way shape or form "is there anything we should know about you or your past?" This is something that never fails to be asked in an interview. When you deny the truth it is the same as lying. If she got hired based on her false statements, then she is under no right to retain the position she was hired into.
This is a tough one. This is where my personal beliefs get in the way of logic. Logic says that she should have told her employers the truth. Even if it ment that she wouldn't be hired, she should have disclosed her past to them. But, if she really did turn her life around, she may have been embarassed to admit that she had worked in the porn industry. All I can do is speak from personal experience. I was a bad person, I made many mistakes that I am not proud of, but I chose to change my life. I turned things around for myself, but there are things that I did that I would rather not disclose to a potential employer. I don't do those things any more. I'm not that person anymore and I find it to be quite embarassing to tell strangers that I was that way.
Before anybody raises the issue of law breaking and child molesters. There are laws that say that you legally have to disclose if you have committed a felony, but being in pornos isn't a crime. This women wasn't a criminal. She just had poor judgement in her prior careeer choice.

Now I haven't read all of the replies to this topic, but I thought I'd give my opinion on this topic. Personally I would not care if I found out my teacher used to be a porn star. I'd think the better of them.

I'd have no problem with it.

Again I wouldn't not care if my teacher was a pornstar earlier in their life. If the teacher is a female, it'd be easy to get an A in the class, just some anal after class lol. God I need help.

Thanks Nic,

This is exactly what my point is by saying it would affect her ability to teach regardless of how good of a teacher she was... Because this is many of students would think, and how many of the parents would think.

Regardless of how much she changed.. how much she turned her life around.. some pasts you just cant avoid in certain situations in life.

for one, you could almost bet big money on perfect attendance for her classes.

for another thing, i would sue the fuck out of the school board, hell, anyone that was directly related to the decision.

doesn't matter. In fact, I would want my kid in that class. If they're smart enough to get the degree to be a teacher, they must certainly be capable of teaching

I'm in the process of getting my education degree (yay internship) and I completely disagree with this. A person might be able to do all the work, pass the exams, handle the practicums (working in a teacher's classroom) and may even do well in their internship. But put her in her own classroom, and it can go downhill very quickly. I know people in my classes that are intelligent but won't be good teachers.

well put. I have never been to school to be a teacher, so i wouldn't know. But still, what are people thinking is going to happen? Will she be teaching the class, and then all of a sudden start touching herself? Uh, no. If she does tell the kids any unwanted info about sex, she will feel the reprecussions of her actions. They have teaching rules for a reason.

I wouldn't care too much, as long as my kid's teacher wasn't a criminal. If they haven't done anything wrong (depending on how judgemental we are), I don't see why anyone shouldn't get a second chance.

Well, being a porn star doesn't make a person a pedophile. It doesn't mean a person is any less of a good person, or any less capable of raising or teaching children.

I don't think I would have very much of an issue with it.

EXACTLY my opinion. They could quite possibly have just needed money or something. I would never ever judge someone, i would definitely give them a chance, everyone deserves a chance

That would have been pretty cool for she was your teacher at school!

Joking aside, she shouldn't have been sacked for something she has done in the past. Some people are put in that situation because they need to pay the bills or simply because they can not find a job to properly support themselves.

Life is full of choices and that was one she made - but that is not going to affect the schools decision as they want to be seen protecting their pupils.
