So I read this story in the Paper this morning about this Website PamperedPrisoners. It Is a Place for Prisoners to place Personnels, basically it is a FaceBook For Criminals.

It was a featured Story in todays paper, because One of the Prisoners, Who advertises that the is Looking to meet Women, Will converse with Men only for Legal advice.

The Problem they had with this was, This particular guy Is serving a Life sentance without the possibilty of Parole fo murdering an I8 year old girl and leaving her in a ditch on the back roads. It took them 4 years to find her.

My Issue, He is A criminal, He is in Prison, WTF right does he have to internet use, What Makes him have any right to continue a life with the outside world as though he was sitting at home bored at night.

None of that BS that prisoners have rights too, He is in prison, and like everything else, we are making as gentle and easy on them as we can for fear of offending them, or taking away thier rights.

And Yes, it does say that the prisoners are not allowed Email, and that they give you the prisoners mailing info so you can contact them and give them your Address.. WHAT

Are there really people out that desperate and Stupid ( rhetorical question) You have no way of knowing what the person you talked to really did, and your going to give them your home address??

Beyond that, They are there, they should not have access to prowl outside society for their future Wife/husband/victim.

The only "pleasure" I think prisoners should have is a small radio in their cell, and books. NO cable TV. (like a lot of prisons have in EACH CELL)

NO work out facilities either. They should only be allowed a running track if they want to exercise. Why give them weight lifting machines? So they can bulk up and jump the prison guards easier?

Also, I am for small workshops in prisons to manufacture simple things, like license plates, and probably take them outside of the prison to clean up neighborhoods. Might as well utilize all of that wasted man power for something useful so they repay society.

Hmm, well maybe things are different over there than they are here because our prisoners have no internet access or cable telly. They only got a tiny terrestrial telly recenty but if that prevents them from rioting through boredom then I'm all for that (first hand information, people) I do think there should be facilities for prisons to prevent boredom but more constructional things, like better education facilities. For instance it's been proved recently that prisoners who learn to play a musical instrument while inside have an 80% less chance of reoffending when released. Thats the sort of things they should be provided with.

Oh and there are workshops over here where prisoners do mundane boring jobs for £2 a week, pretty much slave labour as far as I'm concerned.

I totally agree on education programs. A lot of people cringe at putting taxes towards rehabilitation for prisoners, but I think it would have a long run benefit for society. If you take a person who has been on the street all their lives, and are not educated, and you make it possible for them to learn a trade or get a college (or even high school) education, they will be able to be a more responsible citizen if they get out.

Yeah, thats why I think there should be options on what kind of work they want to do. That way its a more democratic process.

Stuff like this pisses me off. They're in prison, not the local library! I'm fine with the education programs, and if they need the internet for their classes then fine, but even in Iraq every .com website was blocked! When did prison become fun?

I agree about education and a library... in fact I think reading is a really good idea... maybe a tv with bunny ears that gets really bad reception could be kinda ok... but our prison out here is waaay out of town and prolly cant get any tv stations because most of them broadcast from a mountain on the opposite side of town.

the internet with strangers is bad. if they want to have computers with a word processor on them so they can type up letters to people they already know... that's fine...

I'm pretty sure even if you gave them all big screen TV's, beer and strippers, prison still wouldn't be "fun".

Have them sit in a cell with nothing to do. They broke some sort of law, they don't deserve to have any sort of luxury like TVs, cable, air conditioning, anything along those lines. In fact, the guy in this Urban Legends Reference Pages: Pinking Sheers should run all jails.

I think air conditioning should be allowed. Leaving prisoners to swelter inside of inhumane conditions isn't right.

Plus, there are people in prison for rather minor charges, why subjugate them to the same conditions you would subjugate a murderer to?

Uh yeah, its naturally hotter in Iraq, but soldiers have ways of getting out of the heat. Its more often than not that prisoners don't.

How about the elderly people (or really anyone) who live here in the South with no air condidtioning? If they can handle, I think some prisoner can. Personally, that murderer who be on Death Row if I had my way. And as for Iraq, I'll let my husband handle that one.

Then thats their bad. If a government facility is going to house people for a extended period of time, the conditions must be humane. Just because they committed a crime does not make them any less a humane being.
