Palin Quits, Transfers Power to Lt. Governor - Political News - FOXNews.com

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shocked the political word Friday by announcing that she will step down at the end of the month and transfer power to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell.
Palin made the announcement from her home in Wasilla, flanked by her husband, Todd, and family and state commissioners.
The announcement came on the same week that one of her top public health officials says she was forced out of office because Palin felt she wasn't in step on social issues.
Palin's decision now allows her to avoid the difficult task of running for president while serving as governor.
Todd Palin told FOX News that his wife will concentrate on "doing the things for Alaska and the country" that she is passionate about and can not do as governor with the limitation and constant opposition she deals with within the state.
Palin, who defeated incumbent Gov. Murkowski in a primary in 2006,.gained national prominence when GOP presidential candidate John McCain picked her as his running mate last year. But her approval ratings in the state have skidded in recent months.
Palin has been dogged in recent months by ethics inquiries. Her office last month announced the 15th dismissal of an ethics complaint against her or one of her staff.
On Wednesday, Beverly Wooley, who has worked more than 20 years in public health in Alaska, most of it with the municipality of Anchorage, ended her stint as state public health director.
She's the second top health official to leave within days. The state's chief medical officer, Jay Butler, left in late June after declining to take on Wooley's job along with his own. He now is in Atlanta, overseeing a U.S. Centers for Disease Control task force on a vaccine to protect against the H1N1 flu virus.

Amazing! I never saw this coming. Incredibly erratic of her. She didn't have the grit to finish out her term? I guess her skin was more thin than I even thought.

Yes, she said so, at least in part. She said she didn't like the shots she was taking with regard to her kids (which does in no way mean I agree she did). She mentioned Trig.

The other part seems to be the ongoing ethics investigations.

The behind the scenes reporting is she's done with politics. The Vanity Fair article hit her very hard.

any time you take a shot at any children of a politician i think you are a piece of shit! IMO. they didnt ask to get thrown into the spotlight.

all 15 of the ethic complaints against her or her staff have been dismissed

and who could blame her. the way politics is today is too dirty IMO. its not really about what can i do for you the people of this great country. it is now, hey country you owe me and what can you give me or do for me. and while im running for this position, let me air out some dirty laundry of my opponet.

I did not take a shot at them and I don't believe, for the most part, her children have been targeted Palin has dishonestly taken criticism directed at her then characterized it as attacks against her children. Of course they didn't ask to be thrown into the spotlight, Sarah put them there.

Politics is a dirty business, I agree. It keeps a great many good people from serving their country.

i didnt mean that you personally took a shot at them. i was referring to chelsea clinton, bush twins, even palin kids back in aug sep of last year.

She will be headed to TV

The media destroyed her chances for the presidency.

Everything thing she did they nitpicked and went overboard on.

She has charisma and has been in tv before so it is a logical choice.

Who would want to put up with the bull shit she had to endure regardless of whether one agrees she was incompetent.

Things like claiming she is not the mother of the youngest child and that it was the daughters. That is how far things have degenerated and the liberal side of the media put the pedal to the metal when they had the opportunity.

And wives should not always be off target. If one acts like Hillary Clinton did then they are fair game when they want to jump into the fray
