You're argument was that BP got a safety award so Obama is incompetent. Most of criticism I've heard seems intent on gaining political advantage. No surprise is it? We don't live in country where this kind of situation is looked at from a neutral or fair basis. It more of how can I help my party win the next election.

BTW, it does not matter what kind of safety program you have, safety lasts only as long as you don't have an accident. This is one of the conundrums of working in any Safety Department.

Oh my fucking god. You really don't read or comprehend anything that is said, do you? I said that a safety award was given after Obama took office. I didn't blame him for the disaster occurring. Meanwhile, you're blaming Bush for it happening for reasons x and y that you found on someone's blog.

Let's go back and try this again. Maybe you'll understand it this time around, but I'm not holding my breath.

My argument is that there has been a total and complete lack of leadership from the Obama administration on this issue. The EPA hasn't done shit, and the head of the EPA reports directly to Obama. Obama has gone on record about wanting to "kick someone's ass", and pointed fingers, and yet nothing has been done. The Administration has refused help from other countries and not gotten equipment out of storage that might have been able to help. The Administration refused to let state governments build barrier islands when there was still a chance they might have been able to do some good. There hasn't been any sort of leadership provided by the President in this issue as near as I've been able to tell, at least until very recently. All that's really been done is that fingers have been pointed, a company has been shaken down, and blame has been put on Bush. Sounds exactly like what I want to hear from my President during a time of crisis.

Now, the question is whether or not you're actually going to read what I said, or if you're going to go back to saying the same shit over and over again about how I just hate Obama.

Of course you are, no surprises there. Maybe you should reserve a little disdain for the previous administration who served up America to the oil companies on a platter.

If blame is to be assigned on the Presidential level, Bush/Cheney should get the top spot. If our politically expedient forum members want to blame Obama, they can do that because he did not straighten out that oil office since taking office, but it seems like he is on it now, not that it would have made any difference if he had been on it sooner regarding this particular accident. My understanding was that there were several warning signs prior to the kaboom and BP dropped the ball.

Thank you Minor Axis...and Tim!

Tim do you remember when you wondered why I even cared about all this mess??? :24::D

Retro get your head out your ass and quit making it political. BP fucked up and needs to pay. That's all there is to it.

Y'all can rant & rave all you like and still the oil flows into the Gulf and will continue to flow into the Gulf for months to come......

Methane will continue to leak also. Benzene & Corexit...... But hey, knock yourselves out. Why not? It's not like any real thing can be done to stop it all and in the meantime the Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed.

So continue to argue which side is right or wrong.... Not much else to do....:(

There are far more parties that have fucked up than simply BP. Sorry if you don't want to hear it... but it's the truth. The explosion may have happened on BP's watch, but safety awards were handed out by the government for that rig, and the aftermath has been completely botched by everyone involved except for BP, who is actually trying to stop the damn thing.

Why wouldn't I want to hear it Retro?

Do you think I have an agenda? I don't.

BP ran the rig Retro - they're the ones who decided what went on it, and had to maintain it.

It's like leasing land to put a rig on. You can't blame the land owner when shit blows up.

Like I said, you don't know what you're talking about or how the industry is run. Quit smoking the media pipe.

So please Janie, let me know what your obviously vast experience in the oil industry is. I'd really like to know. In addition, there are other factors at play rather than just BP. Like I just said, regardless of who is to blame for the stupid thing blowing up to begin with, there have been fuckups all around since then. Especially by the federal government. BP is the only entity that actually appears to be trying to fucking fix the problem... while the government shakes them down for money and the President talks about kicking their ass.

Once again proving how ridiculously out of touch and clueless you are. The largest Republican voting block around today are those that more than likely voted for Reagan in the first place. But hey, let's play this game... looks to be fun.

FDR, the god of the Democrat party, if he was alive and politically active today would be attacked by your average Democrat for not being liberal enough.

Hey, that was fun. I bet I could throw plenty of names in there.

The other thing that makes you clueless is that you see things in liberal/conservative. You're viewing things on a sliding scale, when it's two sliding scales that make up the scope of political views. I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative. So what does that make me in your world? Apparently it make me a conservative, because you and Tim throw all of us with libertarian views or leanings in with the neocons. When it comes down to it though, we don't agree with that wing of political thinking, but it's closer to what we agree with than the big government, nanny state, spend spend spend that's the Democrats are all for.

There are plenty of us around here that don't like either major political party... but in your limited political view, we're all republicans because we don't agree with the Democrats. Meanwhile, I haven't seen you or Tim agree with a Republican on anything, and I don't think I've seen you take a Democrat to task on anything. Therefore, you look and act like a Democrat.... so despite your claims to the contrary, I have to believe that's what you are.

Yup

Quack, quack, quack :D

Unfortunately there isn't a whole helluva lot that can be done right now. But BP seems to be the only ones actually trying to solve the problem. Meanwhile we have people demanding that they "pay". How about we let them try and fix the problem and worry about kicking their ass later.

We don't even know yet what really cause the problem

There is a lot of crap thrown into the air to see what sticks that has nothing to do with it. They will use every single error regardless of if it had an impact to nail BP

Lets find out what really happened eh? Would be a novel idea

Quiet! It's all BP's fault damnit, don't you know that? Haven't you been listening to the President? He said it's their fault and now he's going to kick their ass and shake them down for money. You're one of those stupid neocons without a clue aren't you?

Retro...have you been listening to Glenn Beck?

I can feel the slime from here.

How is the President asking BP to pay $20 million in damages "shaking them down"?

you have issues. quit watching Fox News.

First of all, it's $20B not $20M. Secondly, I don't remember the last time I turned FoxNews on. I also don't see how Beck is "slime" or any of the right wing pundits... but we all worship at the altar of the "unbiased" MSNBC. It makes no sense... but that's another discussion for another time.

It's shaking them down because god only knows what the actual damages are going to be, and we don't even know for certain who is at fault here yet. There's all kinds of supposition and assumptions going around, but nobody knows the facts yet. So why don't we focus on fixing the problem and then assign blame for what caused it.

Now could you answer my question. Why is it that you know all there is to know about the oil industry but nobody else does? Is it simply because you live in Louisiana? In which case my earlier comment stands.... if you know all there is to know about this because you live there, then nobody from outside of California can comment on earthquakes, because we know it all because we get them more often.

Oh it was a shakedown alright

Chicago style

I can not wait to see the way the govt pisses away this money either. You can bet on ten cents on the dollar at the most will actually be put to use down there. The rest will get gobbled up in typical bureaucratic bull shit. If it even gets there and not to some other bullshit which is also the way things are done. By the time the grubby politicians get their fingers on these funds who knows how they will be wasted
