Is anyone pondering the fact that the stock market is up today, Mon 3/21? So investors must be happy with events over the weekend!

Hell yeah. The nation's insurance companies have nearly a trillion dollars of new cash influx to look forward to!
Really? According to every right wing talker today, this is the democrats plan to put insurance companies out
business so the government can take over.
So which is it? Are the insurance companies going to make bu-cu bucks or are they going to lose everything because of the federal mandates???
You really want to invest long term in health insurance industry?
They bought into it for short term. This is just the start of the end of private insurance as we know it. Should make you wet your pants eh
Yup. The bloodletting doesn't start for 4 more years. Until then the insurance companies are going to grab all they can, and the stockholders are going to get in on it as well.
It's just like the credit card rules that just became effective. The gov't gave them - what? - over a year's heads up I think, so that they could raise rates, close accounts, and do anything else they could to get extra profits before the doors close.
If this is what you think, then you know nothing about the bill.
Almost every hard hitting provision in the bill takes effect in 90 days. These are the provisions that will hit the bottom line of the insurance companies. It isn't until 2014 that people will be mandated to buy insurance. That will be the only saving grace for them.
There were insurance execs talking about this and they seem to think that the short term hits they will be taking will be offset by the mandate later. But make no doubt about it, they are taking the hit up front.
You are nuts if you think they will take the hit
WE will take the hit. We have been telling you the rates would go up which they will now be forced to do. And justifiably so
Oh I forgot, the insurance companies are already exempt from anti trust laws and can fix their prices where ever they want... so much for competition.
Where the hell have you been? Rates have been going through the roof for years. Hell, if I lost my job, there would be no way in hell I could afford to buy insurance. It wasn't like that 10 years ago.
Even if nothing was done, we would all be forced out of insurance in another 10 years just on cost alone.... but I guess a free market could fix that, right?

No probs. Obama fixed that with this healthcare b- ... oh sorry, I guess they missed that little detail. Maybe they shoulda added another couple of hundred pages.
Gee, you'd think that if insurance was the real issue this law was to fix, then that exemption would be the first thing to go.
This bill does nothing to reduce insurance costs
I am well aware of insurance costs. I am an employer.
They've taken part of the auto industry, the banking industry, and the insurance industry already. Only a purposely blind or delusional person won't see what's happening. And you don't think that the democrats are just as much in bed with big insurance as the republicans? You know damn well that deals were made.

Apparently you're deaf and have memory issues as well. :coolApparently I'm blind... what exactly are they doing?
The fallacy of your argument is you assume anyone who opposes big government and Democrats must be a Republican, which I don't think is true for the majority on here with that view.Come on, that's really stretching. Every president talks like that.
There is no take over planned by the democrats.
It's nothing more than fear mongering from the other side when they say that the democrats want big government to keep us all dependent on them.
If you look at the historical record, the republicans have grown government more than any democrat. So it's just fear mongering when they accuse democrats of having big government agendas.
