Yes the Teleprompter did a nice job

I did notice he puts country before the individual. Doubt the founding fathers would agree on that one.

Speaks much of his mindset. But when you are so far to the left you approach being a socialist it is not surprising.

Wow. You really don't read posts. Oh well, I'm sure someone does.

Your post speaks for itself. "Hitler Youth" was mentioned for a specific "association" purpose and it's still pathetic!! And why of all the possible comparisons would you choose to compare Obama to Hitler? Is it because some other conservatives are doing it or do you think it's a fair comparison? Keep try'n...

Looky what I found. President Obama's projected school speech.
Source: Obama Back To School Speech: FULL TEXT
Hello everyone - how's everybody doing today? I'm here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I'm glad you all could join us today.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could've stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.

I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday - at 4:30 in the morning.
Now I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."

So I know some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I'm here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I'm here because I want to talk with you about your education and what's expected of all of you in this new school year.

Now I've given a lot of speeches about education. And I've talked a lot about responsibility.
I've talked about your teachers' responsibility for inspiring you, and pushing you to learn.
I've talked about your parents' responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox.
I've talked a lot about your government's responsibility for setting high standards, supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren't working where students aren't getting the opportunities they deserve.

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world - and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.

And that's what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.

Every single one of you has something you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide.

Maybe you could be a good writer - maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper - but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor - maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine - but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life - I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You're going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can't drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You've got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.

And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.

You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.

We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don't do that - if you quit on school - you're not just quitting on yourself, you're quitting on your country.

Now I know it's not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.

I get it. I know what that's like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn't always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn't fit in.

So I wasn't always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I'm not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn't have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.

Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don't have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there's not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don't feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren't right.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life - what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home - that's no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That's no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That's no excuse for not trying.

Where you are right now doesn't have to determine where you'll end up. No one's written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future. That's what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.

[portion edited due to length]

No one's born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work. You're not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don't hit every note the first time you sing a song. You've got to practice. It's the same with your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right, or read something a few times before you understand it, or do a few drafts of a paper before it's good enough to hand in.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and to learn something new. So find an adult you trust - a parent, grandparent or teacher; a coach or counselor - and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.

And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you - don't ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

The story of America isn't about people who quit when things got tough. It's about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.

It's the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.

So today, I want to ask you, what's your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?

Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I'm working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you've got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don't let us down - don't let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

I listened to the speech today while driving in my truck.
WTF was the fuss all about?
It was about as non partisan non socialist non anything but an inspirational and motivational speech by our President to our schoolchildren. Are people really that scared of this man? Are the hate radio guys that good at pushing the fear and hate button of the American public?

Before I get attacked for being some kind of a commie liberal I will state that I am a registered Independent voter with absolutely no party loyalty either way. I tend toward a libertarian point of view.

Fuck all those hate mongers for even attempting to have this thing be seen for anything more than what it was.

It had to do more with what was recommended the teachers do before and after the speech which the White House suggested that was the problem I think Poopa.

I kind of think some of this is the Democrats own doing. They will be their own downfall the same as the republicans by over reaching. When you get an aggressive agenda that is clearly partisan it creates a storm.

There is much distrust with govt to begin with. Rightfully so IMO. Both parties are so hell bent on getting in control they lose all sense of responsibility. Then the party out of power acts irrationally. We need an adult to lead this nation and not some holier than thou acting group of elitists which is what he have had in the past and continue to have.

Good speech, only problem I have with it is him bringing god into it, but hey, you Americans still haven't advanced beyond bringing that into everything yet. :p;)

Blame it on the Puritans. You can't wash their God off apparently.

I agree with Poopa whole-heartedly.

Alien, how is the white house, the executive branch, which has control of our education over reaching when they suggest teachers re enforce good school work habits? That's not rhetorical - I really want to understand where you are coming from.

The major thing about all this that hit me was how about some respect - he's the fucking President of the US. The shit that gets said about him is disgraceful.

I realize the standard of respect for the office drastically sank when Bush was in office, so something needs to happen to wipe the bad taste and words out of our mouths in regards to the leader of the fucking free world!

What disgusts me the most is how some people in the media and some media outlets(Fox) made such a big deal out of this and got away with it.
It aint about Democrats vs Republicans Its about those who use the corporate media outlets to employ fear, hate and deception to further an agenda that is by no means in the public's best interest. I personally boycott programs and corporations(Fox News for example) that employ this fear/hate tactic as a means to manipulate public opinion. I simply refuse to give them any of my time or money as that is all that I can do as an individual.

Oh If someone who is educated and intelligent can be construed as elitist then who should be running things? We tried the dumbfuck route for 8 years and that didnt work out so well.:(

God, I love my husband:rockon:

It seems PBBB's school decided as a whole to opt out of the speech.:willy_nilly: She also mentioned there were at least three in her class that would have had to have been excused if they did broadcast the speech. I'm assuming those are the same three kids that will be opted out of sex ed too? Or is that too much of a blanket generalization? I'll let you know when it happens.

So, I just had her sit down and listen to it as I found it on YouTube. She thought it was a good speech and doesn't see what all the fuss is about either......

Our nation is in sad shape when the President can't even address school children to tell them to strive to be the best they can be. :(

But I'm sure those sold-out, corrupt, status quo-loving politicians on both sides of the aisle are excited as heck that they can still divide this nation with petty bullcrap that keeps our eyes off of their actions.

Whee for WePeeps.......:(

:horse:horse:horse:horse

Now this bytch is off to fix dinner..........

IMO the White House and DC has no friggin business dealing with Education. I would eliminate that Department. That should be a state and local matter. If you think your city or state is the shits then move. People make those decisions already. For example I could have bought a house for at least 1/3 less cost and lived 2 minutes from work. But the school district sucks there. So I paid more and moved 20 minutes away. I can afford that. I realize not everybody can afford that but still one can move or make efforts to get their kids in other schools. At least here they can.

I agree about the respect part. Too bad those complaining were some of the biggest ones to disrespect Bush. That comes across as backing Bush. Which I am not. The guy was a disaster.

What disgusts me the most is how some people in the media and some media outlets(Fox) made such a big deal out of this and got away with it.

I was careful not to single out Obama. You are making a reach to do so. I stated group of elitists. Both past and present. Having said that I could give a shit if he is educated and intelligent. The world is littered with the likes of those. It don't mean they know how to lead or what is best. If you like creeping socialism ala Euro style then he is your guy.

You both missed my point about the partisan issue. You need to get past the bitching about the last 8 years and pay attention. I vote libertarian. Does not mean I am a republican apologist. Obama and the socialists in charge of the democrats are about as far from what a libertarian can stomach as there is.

I think the main reason people were concerned over it was due to the fact that Obama has used the Presidency as a bully pulpit to push his agenda from day one. That being said, I have no issue with what he had to say, but there was some trepidation as to what exactly he was going to be talking about... if it would be apolitical or a partisan speech intended to push an agenda... I'm happy to hear that, at least from others accounts since I haven't listened to it yet, that it was the former.

The reason for the trepitadion is because Obama has been using fear to push his agenda through ever since he took office. As far as the media goes, MSNBC is far more left than Fox is right. I'm not denying that Fox has a right bias, but MSNBC has a ridiculously heavy left bias... hell, I remember an MSNBC "analyst" after an Obama campaign speech exclaiming, "THAT WAS SO INSPIRING". I thought he was going to have an Obamgasm right then and there on the air.

The left painted GWB as an idiot throughout his presidency... while I don't think he was a very good president, I don't think he's nearly as stupid as he was made out to be. Then we have the media all the fuck over Sarah Palin... while I don't think she's necessarily super smart, I'd be willing to put money on the fact that she's nowhere near as dumb as she's been made out to be either. We completely ignore the gaffes by Obama et al, but whenever a republican says something that could be construed as even remotely unintelligent, we're all over them like they're the biggest idiot in the history of American politics. This shit has been going on for longer than the last 8-10 years too... we made Dan Quayle into a moron because he was handed a card with an incorrect spelling of the word "potato". Where was the outrage when Obama said that he had visited 56 states and that he only had one left, Alaska and Hawaii. Why isn't he made into an idiot? It gets glossed over like it's cute. When Ted Kennedy was running for President in 1980, he couldn't even answer, on national television, why he wanted to be the President of the United States. Fox News is one outlet that is right-biased compared to nearly everything else that's left-biased. The news media has been left-biased for basically all of my lifetime... why is it such an outrage that we have one alternative to the constant left sackriding we find everywhere else.

Forgive me if I misunderstood the comments about Fox News...it just always blows my mind when it gets hailed as this horrible evil place of right-wing nonsense, but the other media outlets don't get the same treatment for being exactly the same, just with a different ideology.

How about someone who is intelligent and educated but who doesn't act like an arrogant "I know better than you so I'm gonna tell you the way its gonna be" and "I can do what I want cuz I've got a mandate from the slim majority who voted for me" ass?

You know, someone who is more concerned with the well being of the country than their own personal power and who leads by example. Someone who makes sound rational policy decisions, based on facts and designed to actually solve problems instead of one who throws half baked, populist BS out there just to make people "feel" like the problem is being solved.

And possibly, just possibly, someone who realizes that some problems aren't solvable by anything else other than individuals deciding they want to make changes in their own lives.

That would be my choice...

And if you're boycotting orgs that use fear and other emotioinal BS to push their agenda, then you better quit looking at the vast majority of media outlets. I've got a whole list of specific, citable examples of the media being being completely uncritical of this admin, coveniently ignoring important and relevant information and just generally being in the bag.

As bad as I despise GWB, I'd prefer to have him back in because at least I could trust the media to be critical of his retarded BS....

So what if he is a gifted speaker with a teleprompter and intelligent. I know a kid that aced the SAT test but could not change a flat tire. You want him to be the mechanic coming to you at midnite in the boonies when your tire needs changing.

Obama is all style over substance. He knows what is best for us and dog gone it he is going to see to it that we get it whether we like it or not. The actions by the democrat party and threats to use reconciliation to get their way with health care should tell you all you need to know about why one can question this guys reasons for doing anything.
