hehehehehehehehehehehehe...... I've often wondered if Laura put 'drops' in his beer to try to keep him on an even keel..... Or was it Cheney that put those drops in to drive him insane like the rest of them???? We'll never know ;)

yay indoctrination... I can only imagine what the uproar would've been like if Bush had pulled this shit.

Ehh, indoctrination.. Give me a break.

In 1988 Ronald Regan gave a speech to students that was broadcast to schools all across the United States. Unlike Obama's proposed speech, Regan in his address made light of several political issues, such as the tax debate.

The conservative hypocrisy on this is overwhelming.

You're right about previous speeches.
C-SPAN Video Player - U.S. Presidents Address Students <-- Reagan
C-SPAN Video Player - U.S. Presidents Address Students <-- GHW Bush

You're a tad one-sided about overwhelming hypocrisy.

Maybe, except that Kennedy was asking that of adults who were capable of making rational decisions for themselves. It also vaguely resembles the Hitler Youth.

*Godwin's Law enacted*

Pathetic, really. And even more pathetic, I can see 3 or 4 heads in this forum nodding in agreement.

What is pathetic about it? I truly want an answer, because I don't think you have the first clue what I mean, and answering might help you realize just how far off base you are.

The comparisons to the Hitler Youth are uncanning. Next thing you know, these children are being recruited into 'Obamajugend' Panzer Divisions and then shipped off to the Eastern Front.

You are off base when you invoke Hitler because you've departed reasonable discussion and are demonizing for political advantage, just like your friends the Republicans, whom you claim you are so different than. It's pathetic you can't come up with a realistic argument, so pathetic you're giving Marty Feldman a bad image.

I'd just like to interject an opinion on the topic of Presidential speeches to the kiddies during school time...

Say what they will to the forming minds of the kiddies.... the kiddies that are being raised by me are still mine and I continue to be the biggest influence during their 'formative' years.....

What are you really afraid of?

Okay. You did as I asked and responded, though rather than actually considering what I said you focused on the name. I guess I can't fault you for not getting past your own filters on the first try, though.

What I meant by this post,
Maybe, except that Kennedy was asking that of adults who were capable of making rational decisions for themselves. It also vaguely resembles the Hitler Youth.

*Godwin's Law enacted*
was simply to draw a parallel of comparisons.
  • Codrus posted "doesnt it seems vaguely like kennedys 'ask not what your country can do for you'?" The Kennedy example only vaguely resembles the Obama speech semantically. The words are similar. The intent is in no way similar. Kennedy was talking to young adults asking them to work and/or sacrifice for the good of their country - far too deep a concept for elementary schoolkids to grasp, and different from the traditional "shut up and do what your parents tell you" they'd heard all their lives. Obama reportedly plans to tell kids to stay in school, work hard, etc. That is no different from what they've heard all their lives, and lines up exactly with what their parents tell them.
  • My comparison is the same type as Codrus'. Hitler spoke to the youth of his country. Obama spoke to the youth of his country. Just like Codrus' comparison, that's where the similarity ends. The two scenarios, as I said, vaguely resemble one another, and unless one looks closely, or even reads without having already made myriad assumptions, one can walk away thinking they are the same. Much the way you gave a cursory glance to my post and decided I was calling Obama a nazi and leader of the 4th Reich.

Why shouldn't I focus on the name, you could have said Boy Scouts of America but instead referred to Hitler Youth. Is your issue with indoctrination or Hitler? You're continuing to try to legitimize pitiful, really alarming arguments. :thumbdown

Alarming is apparently the passel of ignorant, and/or bigoted morons willing to swallow it. (not calling anyone here a moron.)
