I honestly did not know that. Thanks for the information. :)
The Fair Tax intrigues me, I think it's a great concept. If you haven't heard of it, here's the basics as I understand them:

No more annual income taxes, personal or business.
Sales Tax will be increased (I don't know how high, I believe less than 20%).
No more Capital Gains tax, Death Tax, anything like that.
You'll be getting your full paycheck, instead of all the taxes that come out that you never see.

I think it's a very innovative idea. Corporations won't need to hide money from the IRS in offshore accounts. Investors won't have to pay taxes on what they earn. You only pay taxes on what you buy. In theory, I think it has the potential to add a huge boost to the economy.

I like the idea of the fair tax I just did not know Huckabee was for it.
I despise the IRS. They have never turned their ugly eye on me but I know when they go after somebody there is no stopping them. They can take everything from you and they do not seem to really answer to anybody as far as I know.
I know our European friends will laugh at me for this but I think we pay too much taxes as it is. I pay taxes when I buy anything, to drive a car, to have cable, to have internet to have a bank account, to go fishing, to have utilities etc.
We are about to buy a house so now we are facing paying property taxes too. If we don't we will lose the house.
What I earn should be mine and what I own should be mine. I should not have to pay off the government to keep it or to have the right to earn a wage.
Ok my rant is done. :p

Do you think that Fair Tax will be able to accommodate a National Health Care system? I think it would be an idea to take a small percentage of your income for NHC.

I hope to never see an NHC in this nation. I am not rich or well off yet I can manage to pay for health care. Because of this I do not have to wait in line to get an MRI or a mammogram or for anything else regarding health.

So your logic is "I'm fine, fuck the rest"......?

I work for a foreign government here in the US and have access to the best health care available for me and my family. Yet I want nothing more than to see a NHC system in this country. I never want a child to go without health care because her father just got laid off, or because her mother is a crackhead. Health care is right, not a privilege

I don't "love" him, however I totally agree that this country could run on much less government, and we could limit the need for excessive income taxes.

I also agree that we do not need bases in all of the countries that we have them. I will probably get flamed to a crisp for that. But it's my belief.

By today's standard's his economic policies look rediculous, but forward looking there has to be a way to fix our financial woes without continuing to place more burden on the taxpayer.

Perhaps if our spending at the government level was scrutinized a little more we could loosen the straps on the American taxpayer, and by that means help the economy by actually having more money to spend.

I want more government involvement, and less government AUTHORITY. Those are two totally different things.

I agree that we do not need all of these bases, they are a waste of tax payer money.

its actually quite sickening that the richest nation in the world cannot provide decent health care for millions of it's own citizens. That should be a basic right.

Who exactly goes without health care here? People without health care insurance walk into the various free clinics and emergency rooms without paying for it. I pay for those people, this is one reason why insurance premiums are so high. But to say there is a whole chunk of the population without health care is complete nonsense.
What do you think will happen if it was nationalized and the government took it over? It will downgrade into low quality care for all. Those who could not afford health insurance will still get the same crappy care and thanks to NHC, so will everybody else.

around 47 million people in America are without health insurance. Thats appalling.

Free clinics and emergency rooms don't solve the problem here. I know someone personally who was literally bankrupted because they had to spend so much on meds.

The whole "the healthcar would downgrade overall in quality" is BS, and a HUGE myth spread around. Especially about Canada, where the huge LIE about waiting for procedures takes too long, when it actually doesn't. It takes no longer to be seen in a nationalized health care nation then it does with a system the US has. In fact, a lot of European countries with nationalized health care have much much much higher quality than us, and everything there is FREE.

Not if we have a national subsidized health insurance. This way all could be insured. The rich could still use their posh private insurance if they wanted and the poor would still have welfare health care. All the people that fall in the cracks of the health care system (middle income, uninsurable people that private insurance doesn't want, etc.) will now be covered.

I use to think the same as what you just posted until I did research on the issue. The paper I did actually changed my mind.

It is not that many.

You are right, they don't. Our emergency rooms are clogged up with people that don't have insurance because that is the only place they can go that can't turn them away. Doctors offices make you pay upfront and if you don't have the money to pay, you get no service.

I know someone personally who was literally bankrupted because they had to spend so much on meds.
A lot of people fall into this category. It is horribly sad.

Very true.

According to the research I did, you are wrong on this count. But American can learn from other countries mistakes when coming up with a plan to get all people covered for health.

Only in your wildest dreams. First of all there is no such thing as free. Second your claims of higher quality is a joke at best.

No its definitely no charge to anyone who enters nationalized health care facilities. In some cases, they pay YOU if you had to use your own transportation to get to them.

Nationalized health care is not a failure by any means, look at ALL of the European countries with it, and you will find that they exceeded us in many areas of health care by leaps and bounds. Its been proven to work.

That's an assumption based on what I don't know.. I've lived in europe where a NHC systems are everywhere, and I have not seen this low grade health care that you speak of.

Also, not everyone is accept at these free clinics, and not everywhere has free clinics. And a free clinic will only deal with certain issues, not every medical issue.

It is payed for by taxes which means somebody who works is paying for it thus it is NOT free at all. And I have seen nothing to show me that the quality of health care is better.
