For my own piece of mind, would you mind telling me how you think I define capitalism? I want to know that I've made myself clear.

My understanding of your posts is that you are looking for what I would describe as "raw", mostly unregulated capitalism. Where business control all of the strings, where workers are mostly helpless and considered expendable, and must rely on the good graces of their moral employers. The problem is that morality very often is in short supply if not completely absent.

I'd just like to thank the Republicans for inadvertantly restoring pride in the NHS. People over here in general have got very indignant about Republicans slagging off our superior health service. Nothing like a bunch of arrogant, know nothing Yanks slagging us off to restore a bit of good old fashioned pride in our country. ;)

Strip away all the judgmental jargon and you're pretty close. Going further is pointless because you're not willing to be objective.

Thanks, I do find it hilarious though, people over here have been moaning non stop for years about the NHS egged on by freak stories in the redtops about certain, very bad mistakes ect, nothing causes more outrage than an unnecessary death. The moment an outsider critisises it though, all the redtops which have been slagging it off get all indignant and whip the county up into hysteria about the bloody yanks having the cheek to critisise us! At least they got it right this time, for once. :D:thumbup

Don't light that cigar just yet. Clinton lost on healthcare too, don't forget.
It will depend upon whether the reps can get a decent candidate. Clinton was ripe for the pickings the 2nd time the same as Bush was. Both times the other party had shitty candidates.

I don't really care if he gets re elected IF the Senate goes heavily in favor of the reps. When ANY party has this much power it is a bad thing.

Recent history seems to indicate that a Republican congress & Democrat President is better. Of course I'd like to see a Libertarian Congress and president rip through our laws & bureaucracy for a couple of years. :D

Same here, Accountable. If we would get a viable third party to pull from, alot of them would straighten their act up---well, as much as any politician is able to. I am searching for a good, solid, HONEST Libertarian to take the helm, and I will support him/her.
Right now, Congress is thumbing their collective noses at us and the President is gloating. IMO.

Which will eventually result in them being booted out. Then the Reps do the paybacks bull shit. Same as the Dems are doing now. It is a friggin merry go round.

We need to have public financing of elections and the elimination of PAC's and Lobbyists.

Without both the same old shit is going to continue

If I was swinging a hammer, I would have hit the nail. You are misusing the word. Just because I disagree with you does not mean I'm any less objective than you are.
You're right, disagreeing with me does not mean you're less objective than I am. Being less objective than I am means you are less objective than I am. :)

We should all rally around Minor's graduated voting idea. It might just do the trick.

And definately eliminate the electoral college. What a joke! Let the popular vote decide, not the electoral votes. Antiquated system used when communications were not what they were today and the population was not dispersed over the states the way it is today.
Good grief, we've made a mess of things!
I didn't pay much attention in school, but I remember my 8th grade civics teacher harping on the importance of the "balance of power", and the disaster it would be if one party were able to completely take over the government. Her words are haunting me!!!!

The electoral vote makes it harder for 3rd parties to make any inroads into presidential races, the current structure of the system works to the benefit of the two major parties, I don't see it changing anytime soon.

That's your opinion and nothing more. :)

It would help to some degree, in some close races. BTW, not my idea, I just mentioned it. :)

That's just the point. Let the voters vote on any candidate, of any party, without the fear that their "vote won't count" because they already know that their state is going a certain way. I think elections would be much more representative of what the true majority wants without these electorals.
