but they oughta bring back the Jets...

Oh I agree.. And the Nordiques..

There was a really crappy Fun Fact about the Nordiques..

The Avalanche are the only team in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup their first season after a relocation, and only the second team to win a championship their first season after a relocation in any of the four major North American sports leagues, following the Washington Redskins of the NFL.

How do you think that made Quebec feel about losing their team to Colorado.. :willy_nilly:

but I don't think Patrick Roy would have wanted to be traded in 1996 to the Nordiques when the shit hit the fan....he would have been traded to Boston...yeah rightttt!

Patrick would have gone anywhere the money trail led too.. Quebec was actually a decent place to play and Colorado was unknown so going there was an even bigger gamble..

Patrick was good but only as good as the team in front of him.. We all know he had many bad and really bad moments..

^Hey, I was nice! lol

I do hope they don't get shipped off to Winnipeg, despite these outcomes they're still making the playoffs consistently.

Plus, the Jets are a horrible name for a hockey team...the logo is ugly. I kind of like the little gay wolf cries, too...:p

Gee. Thanks guys.

They think it's hilarious because they don't get it.

I've been a Coyotes fan since they moved to Phoenix. That's the equivalent of growing up rooting for a team as I'm sure many of you have. Think about how you would feel if your team were in limbo due to mismanagement by an asshole who then just wanted to get as much money as he possibly could. Think about how you would feel in the face of the team you grew up rooting for potentially leaving. I don't even care that they lost to the Redwings. I care that they may not be playing here ever again. Winnipeg doesn't deserve to have the Coyotes back. They can have a team if they want. Just not ours. It's OUR team.

I'll keep the mockery in mind in case this ever happens to one of you. I'm sure you'll think it's equally hilarious, then. I'm sure the Sacramento Kings fans would appreciate it if you acted that way about their team, too.

Wait a second here..

Who said it was..

First of all Winnipeg's team should have just been taken apart, not moved to Phoenix.. No franchise should ever be moved period in any sport period..

Winnipeg did not deserve it after 17 years of having the team, neither did Quebec.

At this point Phoenix still has a team and god know Bettman will do everything to keep them there..

But yes I have had a team that was over 30 years in the making ripped out of my hometown and moved. The team I grew up with them to see them left to rot, brought to nothing by a lying owner who wanted to make a fast buck and did so and had the team finally moved.. It was in Baseball..

Montreal Expos..

Then in my new city we were given Basketball where attendance was extremely good for an average team..

Vancouver Grizzlies..

So please don't preach to me about moving teams.. I would rather they kill a franchise and start up a new one then move it..

Just keep in mind that we're getting really sick and tired of hearing about how much Winnipeg "deserves" a team...our team. Should they have moved in the first place? No, probably not. But they did. And I'm tired of hearing about how much we shouldn't have a team here because we're in the desert. Might as well just move all hockey back to Canada.

We're not worthy.

Example number one New England Patriots before Robert Kraft bought them. they were a shitty team and the fan base was at an all time low and the then owner wanted to move them to St. Louis! Fans could not have cared less and they were ready to say bon voyage and good riddance. Bob Kraft paid $172 million in 1994. Hindsight being what it is was, I too was relieved that the Patriots would be staying here in New England. Seeing this team at its absolute worst (1989-1994) made me appreciate the team all that more, they could fall apart at the hip and be out of contention for a few years, but I would never ever forget the Parcells Era (1993-1996) and the Belichick years as well. I thought for sure the Patriots would be sunk back to mediocrity when Pete Carrol came to town, but when Belichick took the reigns you knew something may happen...and the rest is history...

Yup... nevermind the fact that the majority of the teams in the NHL are here in the United States. Might as well just start up the National Canadian Hockey League and disband the NHL.

I just think it's fucked up for some of you talking about how we shouldn't have a team (granted, I don't live in Phoenix, but I'm a fan of the team and don't want them to move) and that Winnipeg "deserves" one. Last time I checked, the Yotes are still averaging more fans per game than the Jets were when they moved. The players actually *want* to play in Phoenix, it wasn't the same thing when they were in Winnipeg, which meant they couldn't keep their best players... because nobody fucking wanted to play there. We've made the playoffs the last two years and are putting a winning team on the ice.The Jets and Nordiques were in the two smallest markets in all of the NHL, which was why the folded.

Francis --- the Expos wen't putting a winning team on the field, and the Grizzlies weren't putting a winning product on the court.

So you would've rather the Expos just die? Because the talk was contraction, not creating a new franchise. The Twins and Expos were up during the contraction talks, and had MLB not found a way to move the Expos to Washington to become the Nationals, the franchise would have ceased to exist period.

We're dicks, eh
Well, it wasn't so much a commentary on the Red Wings. It was more about the same franchise (Jets/Coyotes) playing out the same scenario.

As for the whole thing about moving the Coyotes...I think it's more about who can sustain a team than who deserves a team. Maybe if there were more fans like retro and anathelia in Phoenix they could sustain a team but there aren't. Retro says that average attendance in Phoenix is higher than it was in Winnipeg but where are they coming from? Not Phoenix. When I was there for a Flames game last year the Flames fans outnumbered the Coyotes fans and the building was half empty. You can't sustain an NHL franchise with that kind of fan base.

But I know where you guys are coming from. Losing your team sucks. When I lived in Kentucky they had an AHL team in Lexington. I was a big fan and went to as many games as possible. Unfortunately the team ended up moving to Cleveland because there weren't enough people like me in the area to sustain the team. You just can't sell hockey in a non-hockey market. :(

Yah you bet I would have..

For 30 years we built that team, who had no support from day one, to be a major league contender, to have it yanked from underneath us when it was finally a viable organization..

And just like a Corporation, if it cannot hold up in one location, No funding should be permitted for it to move elsewhere.

Today's news that the Dodgers have been taken over by MLB and Selig with "deva vu" with the Expos ???

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mlb-dodgers

And Talk about Expansion of two teams in MLB. What's wrong with this picture ??

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2011-04-07-angels-baseball-expansion_N.htm

Before we go trying to win over new markets, why don't we try to fix the issues faced by most sports leagues ?

Kill the franchises that are really bad for each sport, invest in those that have had great past record and give them better talent by using what's already in the agency pool from the teams you will delete..

The problem arises when the Union kicks in and demands that teams stay afloat from new franchises that are fiscally bad and bring down everyone else. The other issue is the leagues make mega bucks handing our franchises so it's to their benefit and all other owners to do so.. So both the union and owners are in favor to grow the problem.

So if the league can't handle the extra teams why hand out new franchises and move old ones IMO other than to peeve off fans and make oodles of money..
