i think the playoffs are a hard fight. the bruins and sabers didn't show like they hated one another during the season, but seeing the same foe does get to you (and especially if you are on the losing end you are more desperate)

The NHL ruined itself by over expanding and then getting rid of donnybrooks and adding the 2nd man in penalties.

You don't have the rivalries like in the past. Plus with free agency and the salary cap it just gets worse as players don't get an identity with a team for the most part.

For all the morons that want to sisify the game they can go screw themselves. You did not see the amount of dirty shit 30 years ago because the players respected each other. They had enforcers and if you played dirty you got your clock cleaned by one of them.

The other thing is the pace of the game has been ruined by television time outs. Some sports can do that with little effect but not hockey. All of this is due to the totally clueless idiot Bettman. How the hell do the owners keep him when it is obvious he is a moron. And a smug one at that.

I think as well this bull$hit about overtime and an extra point has to end..

If a team loses in OT why give them that extra point ?

Do we have men or sissies playing hockey.. Oh sorry boys but you lost so we still give you a point for making an effort and getting to OT.. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK..

It does have an impact on how the game is played towards the end of regulation. Some times a team will play it safe to ensure the tie and point. I agree it is a stupid idea to give a point when you lose.

Not sure about how I would feel if it went to a shootout. I like shoot outs but that is a crappy way to lose a game. Makes no sense. Yet you can not have multiple overtimes in a regular season game. How about every 5 minutes each team loses a player. Until eventually there is just one player left. Somebody should score pretty quick then eh :p

i have a suggestion for OT. one team has 5 minutes on offense (5 on 5) (score as many as you can) if the defense clears the puck face-off outsdide the line and time stops after 5 minutes the teams swap. points go the higher scored team. thoughts?

Just leave the game as it is but remove the extra point for OT.. Pretty simple..

No team should get a point for losing..

I remember when they had no TV time outs and the game would start back up while you were in the middle of a commercial.. Often time you would miss a goal.. :mad

but in reality that is infrequent. You just notice it because at the time it was significant.

I have said it before but with todays technology and picture in picture capability there is no excuse to let commercials dictate. They could keep the game on in the small screen and then use a replay when the commercial is over if something interesting happened?

Have you been to a game lately? It is absurd how long the time outs are. It really has taken away from this sport in particular. Which is ironic because hockey is IMO the only sport that watching it live is so far superior to seeing on TV. Any other sport I don't miss seeing live and find TV is just as good of a viewing experience. Can not say the same for hockey. It was meant to be seen in person.

In this city.. Vancouver is probably just as bad as Montreal for trying to buy tickets.. They only had about 1,000 tickets available for the first round of playoffs in the 18,000 seat arena selling at Ticketmaster for over 428.00 each. This place is hockey crazy when they lose.. Riots downtown..

I agree about commercials but TV networks will never give way to their precious ads.. Man they already bounce them off the boards during play time in some arena's and football games.. They don't need to stop play but will.. The players contracts also ( Union ) probably include these stops in them now.. Rest stops as they call them as the coach is not required to call the others during the period..

and they wonder why the NHL wont get a national following. I remember asking Barry Melrose(at the winter classic) about bringing back the NHL to ESPN....that won't happen

bring back fighting and it would help

There was a Toronto and Boston donneybrook back about 30 years ago that was breath taking. It put WWE to shame for the entertainment value with all the guys paired off. As I recall it all started when one of the Bruins got smoked by one of the Leafs.

Hell my sister would go nuts when there were fights. There have not been many decent ones in ages. Probably the last of the fighting times were when Kocer and Probert (bruise brothers) played for the Wings.

Dont't get me wrong. I don't want thuggery. I enjoyed the sport for what it was but the fights were icing on the cake
