Because every clergy man and holy text that says that Christ was born on that day is lying straight to your face.

oh and:

Jeremiah 10:1-5 in the Bible says the following (King James Version):

[1] Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
[2] Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
[3] For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
[4] They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
[5] They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

have fun sinning this year and engaging in a pagan festival.
Lol, you are sooo taking that out of context! The reason the trees were evil is because they worshiped their creations! They were idols! But just because they worshiped a tree does not make trees evil. It was the act of worshiping that was evil. If we worshiped Christmas trees today, of course it would be sinful!

No wonder the Bible never made any sense to you if you read it all like this...!

No, you're the one choosing to not see my point. You're taking a pagan symbol and engaging in pagan tradition by merely putting it in your house. It would be like putting an inverted pentagram on your wall and denying that it was sinful because you took a different meaning from it. In the end its all pagan traditions that you are engaging in.

Symbols are not the sinful part - it's the worshiping of those symbols that is the problem. So no, an inverted pentagram on my wall would not be sinful either, only if I worshipped it.

If you took part in a satanic ritual, but didn't believe in what you were doing, you'd still be sinning for taking part in a satanic ritual.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that, but for now, I will agree. But, I'm not "acting" like I'm worshipping a Christmas tree. So what's your point?

If you really want to get into it look up the meaning of the Christmas Tree and the ornaments and colours..

They do have religious meaning. And the Tree shape represents the holy Trinity!

The original meaning was of eternal life during the winter solstice for pagans. After Christianity hijacked the practice, they made up the meaning of trinity behind the tree.

Much like Easter, another Roman pagan holiday the Church renamed.

Enough what?
You even taking part in a pagan practice is enough to sin.

I'm an atheist so that kind of blows your theory out of the water but never mind me. ;) The fact that something was previously practice as a "pagan" ritual (as you call it) doesn't mean it can't be adopted by some other form of religion and given as new meaning.

Exactly. I'm sure everything someone could do has been used as a "pagan" practice by someone at sometime or another.

Merry Christmas. I mean, holidays can be attributed to holidays in general too, such as Summer holidays, which can perhaps be confusing.

That being said, i really couldn't give a crap.

I read an article a couple days ago about how the word "Christmas" was making a comeback among retailers. The last couple of years, most refused to use the word, and would only let their cashiers say "Happy Holidays", and not "Merry Christmas". This year however, many more have reverted back to the traditional "Merry Christmas".

To me, the whole argument is ridiculously riddled with polically-correctness because of a few nay-sayers and outcriers who don't like Christians. Christmas is the holiday that is celebrated on December 25th, and is also the reason 98% of America is out shopping for gifts this time of year, so why should people not be wished a Merry Christmas?

So, I'm curious, what do you all think? Should cashiers be telling you to have a "Merry Christmas", or should they be wishing you "Happy Holidays"? Or should we even care?
"Happy holidays and shop till you drop to stimulate the economy"
