Re: Merrry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

Christmas is Christmas, and I'm not Christian. To me, the Holiday Season meant Christmas and New Years. If somebody referred to a Holiday party or Happy Holiday I will tell them I am insulted.

And that's the whole point that bothers me. Politically correct emasculated social engineers are going about being insulted and offended for people that don't necessarily feel it! Telling my co-worker he can't mention the stink of other people's food in the lunchroom because somebody might be offended? These pathetic little people imagining every possible way a minority may be offended then telling us we can't do it. Well, I have some news. I counted heads the other day in our lunchroom, with the results below:

Blacks = 7

Indian = 5

Filipino = 7

White = 8

Now, unless my math is faulty, 8 out of 27 makes me a minority so I think it's my fucking turn to feel offended! :mad I will lodge a complaint against the first fucker that makes a comment about my sardines!

:clap:clap:clap

You have no idea how much it pains me to do that :24:

Happy holidays, although i dont really care. It kinda sounds better for everyone - letting christians celebrate their holiday on a national level surrounded by a couple weeks of break time, while still telling all other people that even tho everyone knows its all about xmas, you can have a nice holiday too and we wont rub it in.

Wondered when this would get round to untrue lib stereotypes.:rolleyes:
Yep, so true, Peter. I'm a democrat and you can tell by my previous post in this thread, I do not fit into the convenient stereotype implied here.

why would anyone get offended at Merry Christmas? Even if you don't celebrate Christmas you still know it's a wish of good will. It's a harmless expression, in my opinion. I mean it's better than "Fuck you" isn't it?

If "Happy Holidays" really, really, really bothers you, you can always reply with Merry Christmas. :dunno:

I've done it before, just to prove a point. Christmas is a federal holiday, isn't it? So why can't we say Merry Christmas?

Lol, that's probably the best argument for it. Kind of like saying "happy independance day" or something. :)

Re: Merrry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

I always say "Happy Winter Solstice", which always gets a puzzling look. Since I'm an atheist wishing anyone a Merry Christmas or holiday (also a reference to religious event) is not politically correct for me. Besides its my way of telling the PC crowd "fuck you".:D ;)

Oh and BTW, Happy Winter Solstice!

Good point. An athiest couple I know always threw Solstice partys every December. They also threw a summer solstice party, partys for both equinoxes and a Fuck February party. They liked to party.

Oddly enough, I got this e-mail today:

*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a 'Holiday'.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,
not Happy Holiday!*

I read an article a couple days ago about how the word "Christmas" was making a comeback among retailers. The last couple of years, most refused to use the word, and would only let their cashiers say "Happy Holidays", and not "Merry Christmas". This year however, many more have reverted back to the traditional "Merry Christmas".

To me, the whole argument is ridiculously riddled with polically-correctness because of a few nay-sayers and outcriers who don't like Christians. Christmas is the holiday that is celebrated on December 25th, and is also the reason 98% of America is out shopping for gifts this time of year, so why should people not be wished a Merry Christmas?

So, I'm curious, what do you all think? Should cashiers be telling you to have a "Merry Christmas", or should they be wishing you "Happy Holidays"? Or should we even care?
saying "happy holidays" isn't politically correct. its just the logical thing to do. Since we all live in a nation where a ton of religions share the same time period of holidays, its only nice to say "happy holidays".

Think about how you would feel if a jew said to you (a x-tian) "Happy Hanukkah".

Plus your savior wasn't even born on the 25th. Biblical scholars will attest to this. "Christmas" is really a hijacked pagan holiday.

Oh, and if you're a christian and have a Christmas tree, you're taking part in pagan practices. The bible even tells you not to have a "Christmas" tree.

I wouldn't care if a Jew told me Happy Hanukkah. I'd probably wish him a Merry Christmas back. We all have different beliefs, and that's fine. I'm just saying, because the VAST VAST majority of people celebrate Christmas, what's wrong with using those words? Especially, you know, because it's a federal holiday and all? I mean, people say Happy Halloween, but some people don't celebrate halloween, so should we change that to Happy Holidays too?

And we don't know the day when Christ was born, so we picked a date to celebrate it. Who cares?

And the Bible does not tell you to not have a Christmas tree, not sure where you got that idea.

Because every clergy man and holy text that says that Christ was born on that day is lying straight to your face.

oh and:

Jeremiah 10:1-5 in the Bible says the following (King James Version):

[1] Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
[2] Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
[3] For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
[4] They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
[5] They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

have fun sinning this year and engaging in a pagan festival.
