What the fuck happened to Rooney? Hope his injury isn't too bad, need him like hell for the World Cup!:willy_nilly:

It's a twisted ankle I think, we'll know more today when our doctors look at him. It's not the dreaded metatarsal thankfully but it could still be a bad one, depends what grade it gets.

Manchester United 1-2 Chelsea

Dreadful performance. Pretty much a Title give away. They got a much deserved lead through Joe Cole.

A better performance in the second half only resulted in the one goal from Macheda, but that was only a goal back after Didier Drogba scored a goal which, while clearly offisde, was what Chelsea deserved.

The Title looks really unlikely now, relying on them to slip up and certainly us to win every game.

I think Ferguson stands squarely to blame here though, although he is a fine manager, given that Rooney was out, instead of leaving Berbatov alone up front, he should have started Macheda alongside Berbatov. Macheda is an electrifying young player with a history of big game results.

Fergie should have seen they had "no bite" earlier and given Macheda a chance to do more than score a late consolation goal.

Instead, Fergie tried to play it safe and hope for a lucky 1-0 win.

Against Chelsea.

For the championship.

The soccer gods punished him firmly for that momentary lack of initiative and faith in his team.

I'd agree with that to be honest. I mean the quality from the midfield to support Berbatov today was shockingly poor.

The referee and his assistants were mediocre at best today, especially with the Drogba goal, if you look at the replays the assistant was late in getting in his position hence the no call. This is not acceptable for a top flight match of critical consequences.

Offside yes, but the decisions evened themselves out given Macheda handled the ball in the goal for you

Yeah, although I would say it wasn't delierate handball (it just bounced up onto it) but to be honest had we drew the game, while I certainly would have been delighted with it, I would also have felt critical of the performance because we were so poor.

I think the referee in the main had a very good game. Both penalty claims were penalties in the first half (Park and Anelka) but apart from that he had a good game.

We just need to pick ourselves up and hopefully beat Bayern on Wednesday.

I don't know. His decisions evened themselves out, but he (and his team) missing two penalties and giving two goals that should have been disallowed marks it out as an appaling game from him! He's just lucky that things evened out

Manchester United 3-2 Bayern Munich

A victory and a loss, a win on the night but a 4-4 draw on aggregate means we go out on away goals. It started well enough through two quickfire goals from Gibson and Nani, and when Nani scored again we were in dreamland....

....But then it all went wrong. Firstly Olic pulled the deficit back to one, and then Rafael got sent off for his second yellow. Rooney as a result had to go off and we just lacked firepower fron then on, and when Robben hit a stunning volley to level it on aggregate. And that was that.

I don't like United much but admire them for their spirited display, they were the better team and the sending off was key. They gave so much at the start that with 10 men in the second half they were all knacked.

And Rooney wasn't fit.

Sending off was indeed key.

But not as key as the first Bayern goal, Olic bullied Carrick off the ball. If Carrick stood stronger or just got rid of it like he should have, they'd have gone in 3-0 up and the game would be done.

Not match fit but that's too be expected. He made a bit of an impact in the first half and it wasn't really his fault he went off (we had to sub someone for the defender).

Barcelona's to lose now.

And yeah on the post above, Carrick was to blame for the first goal and to a point the second (he gave it away sloppiily to leads to the corner, smashing volley though)
