Windows user here... but I want to get a Mac again. I'd love to be able to go away from PCs entirely to be honest with you.

Thread revival.

Some of you will be happy to know that from the horses mouth, PC World Magazine (Mar 2010) for both Laptop and Desktops, Apple, yes Apple is the number one brand for RELIABILITY and SERVICE. :)

That's a good piece of info. Thanks for sharing :willy_nilly:

I've never encountered such excellent service like Apple does comparing it with the PC customer service
( maybe not all but they tend at times to be so obnoxious and insist on things without helping you. One ends to buy extra stuffs to fix problems instead of helping you with what you have.) With Apple service - I see them providing quality service. Once, i screwed up installing Ilife- I mean i started it but didnt finish it- so it didnt actually install. When i needed it and called them, it told them i lost my CD/DVD-ROM. What Apple did was to send me a FREE upgraded CD/DVD ROM and i just have to pay S/H which was very C00L :cool

My '06 iMac has had its fair share of breakages, the Logic Board died twice in the first year and while Apple were fine with replacing it, having to carry the blasted thing to the Apple store in the middle of the Bull Ring (shopping centre in Birmingham) was a pain in the arse. Mailing it off wasn't an option, would have taken too long

Now, the disk drive doesn't work, not ideal but i do have an external one to use instead because out of warranty, Macintoshes are very expensive to fix. Massive disadvantage, but OSX is worth it

Apple Marches Forward

From Jan2011 PC World tech log (Steve Fox):
Ten Tech Predictions (for 2011) to Take to the Bank-

No.2 All tablets not named iPad will be massive flops. They won't work well and they won't sell well either.

"I'm a big Android fan and I'd love to see competition among tablets. But Apple's iPad has momentum, a disciplined approach to features and development, and all those fantastic apps. The Android Market is a fractious mess, with too little quality control and far to many options. We shall see."

I will never use a mac. I see them at work all the time and have come to this decision.
I am not impressed by the build quality. Only the Sony group of Vaio laptops have impressed me less.

As for the OS, I wouldn't like the hassle of using it. But it's not a bad OS.

I've compared my MacBook to a Sony Vaio. The build quality it light years ahead on my MacBook, nothing comes close. The Vaio is overpriced and shoddy in comparison.

Mine's a unibody model. Not a single visible join on the thing other than where the screen meets the base, seriously impressive.

Disagree pretty strongly lol.

Also, I hate the solid body design. It's just a scam to get people into mac stores so they can pay extraordianry amounts for simple repairs.

seriously, there isn't a single join on this unit. it's so beautifully crafted I don't have a single complaint on it's design. Compared to my exes Acer of a similar price this thing is like and Aston Martin and hers was a beaten up old Ford Fiesta.

The Vaios are good tho. But having held both in my hands, the build on the Mac is superior.

You know it costs the same to get things fixed in this model as it did on previous, non-unibody ones.

PC is more customisable than the Mac, that is why Mac sucks. If you go for a Mac 'upgrade' you would have to dish out on a new pc rather just parts you want to add or take away

The thing is with the Mac, is that a brand new machine is always top of the line, they just make a few high quality models all with top specs. I've never actually thought "ooh I need a new so and so" other than maybe a larger hard drive.

I mean, I've worked in places where we had some old macs, but they still did the job admirably. You get a better life span with a Mac I think.

 I believe so too about the better life span. With the 2 years + now that I've owned my Mac, I've not encountered any problems at all ;)

One can always customize the Mac though just to cater to one's needs. When you call the 1800-Apple directly they price it according to what specs you needed the Mac for and hence it's cheaper if you don't add all the other unnecessary specs :)

I agree that the build of the Mac is superior over Sony Vaio. I've owned Pcs b4 and had so many problems. So i thought then that maybe Sony Vaio would be the better brand. It's true comparing it to other pc brands- it's much better quality but that quality deteriorates after a year or so of use. After that one year is when i started having problems and i had to maybe 2-3x per year bring it to shop for repair. I was lucky to have gotten the 5 yr. extended warranty. Hence after those bad experiences with repairs and headaches etc with other pc brands and Vaio and now have experinced stress free, worry free and problem free Mac for 2 years, I daresay, Mac will stay and I will never ever again go back to PC or Sony Vaio :ninja

It isn't a gaming machine though

My nephew is a gamer and he uses my Mac for games. So far, we've never encountered any problems

PCs were fun in the old days...playing Frogger, Solitaire...wordpad, paint. Now when we need them a lot, they are all so shit. Can't count how many times Firefox has "Not responded". And once one program fucks up, so does the sound mixer, and YouTube, and iTunes. So THEN I have to restart the stupid shit. And it makes a couple of stupid beep noises because oh my god it must've been handling too much, oh that poor stupid PC, what a deadshit of a piece of technology. And this laptop came with so many useless features like HP programs that give it a tune up and support blah blah, waste of space. Can't describe just how bad they are. Not to mention every time I wake it up from sleeping, it takes it five seconds for the stupid mouse cursor to move even though I am moving it like a fucking spastic.

By the way, why hate Mac users? If you ask me, THEY HAVE A FUCKING BRAIN :D
