no clue.

but I also don't know how to say that some is looking suspicious

what i am saying is that if cop's already have the right to stop something for looking suspicious, (which often translates to poor or black) then why can't they stop some one for suspicion of being an illegal?

i mean shit if they come across a chinaman that doesn't speak english in arizona, then i guess they can ask him for ID too.

Police can't stop someone for "looking suspicious." They CAN, however, for suspicious BEHAVIOR. I have no problem with that. How you act is irrelevant to your ethnicity. But I have a major problem with detaining someone because of the color of their skin.

The police may not stop you for looking suspicious.

It's just as wrong to stop overweight people under suspicion of stealing food, as it is to stop a Latino under suspicion of being an illegal.

It doesn't matter if 99 out of 100 Latinos are criminals, you cannot stop them because of race. Our constitution protects us from that.

How would you feel if the police decided that your neighborhood had too many criminals and were going to randomly search any home in your neighborhood? How would you like to live under the fear that your house could be raided at anytime day or night just because some of your neighbors broke the law? Would you care? Or would you stand up for your rights?

looking suspicious and acting suspicious is such a fine line it might as well not exist

they can and do stop people who they deem look suspicious

i would love to see some one fight that in court. they would lose miserably.

and who said anything about detaining? it's just checking ID

wow seriously. totally different - stopping to check ID and raiding people's house???

and you know what my roommate used to drive around a broke down looking car and she got stopped all the time.

as she should have because nine times out of ten she was doing something illegal

but even if she wasn't, it wasn't like it made me fearful the cops would follow her home and find all the pot we had in our house.

cops, having the technical right or not, can stop you for looking suspicious. they always have ways of justifying their stops.

What if you don't have your ID on you? It's ok to arrest someone because they decided to go to the store and didn't bring ID??? This isn't 1940 Germany. I don't have to carry ID on me everywhere I go. The police DO NOT have the right to stop me and question me if I'm not doing anything wrong. They CANNOT arrest me for not having my "Papers"

Why is it ok to do this to Latinos?

You have a valid point there. It happens all the time...

No it isn't Nazi Germany, but that's not the only place or instance where authorities have the right to check for ID. And it's not like authorities are taking over a territory and sending these illegals to the gas chambers.

If you buy alcohol, cigarettes, cold medicine - you have to show ID.

If you are driving a car without your license they can give you a ticket.

If you are crossing the border or flying on an airplane, you have to have ID.

I believe if you have a green card, you are supposed to carry it on you at all times.

They may not be able to lock you up for not having your papers, but they can lock up and detain illegal immigrants.

But the question isn't if they can lock you up or not - it's if they can stop and ask you for ID.

But it's not legal for cops to do that. Just because they can get away with that doesn't mean it's legal.

but it kind of is. the area is very gray, which is why cops get away with it

like i said the line between "acting" suspicious and "looking" suspicious is so thin it might as well not be there.

if you are walking along on a dark street at night - is that acting or looking suspicious?

Whether it's legal or not it's happening. I think that is the point. Things are just going to get way out of control for putting so much power on officers. Only bad can come from this.

How do you "Act" suspicious anyway....if your acting...your role playing, or pretending...so "Acting" suspicious must mean that your NOT really suspicious...

Your either suspicious...or your not.

I think there's a real problem in the US with Illegal Aliens but no amount of Laws like this can fix the problem. They need to get our borders under control first and start keeping them out then focusing on the right way to make Illegals Legal...

A lot can be done to have employment controlled by using Social Security or some other form of National ID checked against a National database. A billion(s) dollar fence is not the solution. If you control the jobs, you'll control the immigrants. Just ask the Canadians...try to go up there and get a job without the proper documentation, good luck! ;)

Same thing goes for hospital care, if you show up and pop out a kid, that should not guarantee you citizenship. Your kid came here illegally with you. Send ya both packn should be the policy.

Illegal, un-Constitutional, and won't stand a review from any court at any level imo.

AT the risk of sounding totally stupid....whats the difference between this and Terrorist profiling...

Not EVERY Mulsim/SIkh whatever is a terrorist...yet here (dont know about there) innocent people have been arrested because of "suspicions" and this new "terrorist Profiling"....

Bloody paranoia.....its contagious..... and at the risk of sounding like our friend Kelvin......the US loves to spread it rather than contain it.....

Just my 2 bobs worth

but it does seem that 90% of terrorists are Muslim.

True.....you could also say that 90% of your illegal immigrants would be Hispanic too....

Ours are Indonesian....

We just stop them halfway and leave them stranded on an island

Maybe we should make a new reality series...."Survivor....Boat people style"

Winner gets a free visa

I'd have to disagree with you there Cammie, ...at least to me most Canadians sound different.

of course i was born in Florida and I've had people ask if i was Canadian
