Well then boohoo to them, you learn from your mistakes.

You can be 45 and still have the maturity level of a 13 year old.. It just depends on the person and their experiences and how they are. Everyone is different.

I think 16 should be the minimum but there should be an age difference as well there. For example perhaps 5 years--that is a 21

disagree.
it aint cool when youre the 16 year old in that situation, and might not want to be.
i understand your views... but the 21 year old could easily manipulate situations...
he could over power the girl and psychologically damage her.

Didn't the age of consent at some point have to do with puberty? I'm not advocating that just asking. It decision seems more tricky when you start picking an arbitrary age.

I think there could be a law for a particular age, but I think the main thing would be enforcing the law/rule and that can be a difficult task to do sometimes. I think that's about true with any law though. As was mentioned above, people will do what they feel is right when they feel it's right. It's just the enforcement part that would be hard for this.

I'm not sure if I could come up with a particular age on this for sure; that's a bit of a toughy one to decide.

Maybe its just me, but I think the age of consent shouldn't be based on age... it should be based on your intelligence and your perception of reality. LOL.

No really... I think its about as good as its gonna get at 16, just because of all the points that have already been made. Maturity levels differ at every age and trying to pinpoint the exact age where a person is capable of making a decision, like whether or not to have sex, is impossible.

Either way, if parents would talk to their children more about sex instead of leaving it up to friends and sex ed at school, then there wouldn't be such a huge issue IMO.

I know we can't "pin point" what age is the best age to allow sex, but I don't think anyone is ready to have sex at 16. IMO you aren't ready to have sex until you're ready to have kids, and I don't know any 16 year old mature enough to have a child.

I think 18 is good. I think about where my mind was at 16...I was pretty ignorant to the world. Hell even at 18 I was pretty ignorant to the world. Most 16 year olds arent able to handle the responsibility of a child either. They're still going to school, so they either have to drop out and get a job or the responsibility gets pushed on the parents.

But you can't make the legal age of consent based on if you're ready to have a child or not, simply because there are 30 year olds that aren't mature enough to have kids. So does that mean that we shouldn't allow people to have sex until they're 30?

My sister had her first child at the age of 16. She graduated high school and has a great job. She is now married, with four children and they have a pretty good life. She is definitely not the norm, but it does happen.

16 is the legal age of consent, because at that age, the majority of teens can comprehend the consequences involved with what they are doing, whether they are ready to take those on or not.

Yes but most 30 year olds have a mature BRAIN, their personality might not be but, at least their brains are. Secondly, most 30 year olds have finished some sort of schooling, and at least high school, and thirdly most 30 year olds have an income.

It's not just about being mature and responsible 16 year olds don't have the time to easily take care of a kid, they have school to finish, scholorships to receive, and jobs to get. Sure maybe a 16 year old could handle it all with a kid, but, then they become a huge burden on everyone, needing money, babysitters, etc.

Bottom line, no one should have children until they are at least 18 and graduated from highschool.

You are able to drive a vehicle at the age of 16 and get a job, therefore, you have pretty much the same rights as an 18 year old, except voting. So technically, a 16 year old, whether or not they have finished high school is just as capable as supporting a child as an 18 year old.

And once again, graduating high school isn't all that normal these days. MANY people drop out and get a GED, which you can get at the age of 16.

But regardless of if they ever change it to age 18, very few will follow it. Many don't follow the 16 year rule as it is.

What we need to do is quit worrying about an age limit, because they're going to do it anyway, and focus on teaching them safe sex and why its so important to wait, besides the fact that you can get pregnant. Because IMO, sex is so much more than the risk of having a child.

Of course we have to keep teaching kids about safe sex and to wait, but the age limit is important. Without the age limit I'm sure tons more kids would be getting pregnant and STD's at age 16, then would of if the age limit had been 18. Plenty of them will continue to ignore the rule, but changing it so they are allowed to is bound to start an uprise of sex, plus it would be harder to tell kids to wait, etc. cuz they would be like, well the law says we can have sex, and your just some teacher, so I am going to have sex no matter what you say will happen to me.

and, are you seroisly argueing that 16 year olds should have kids?

I'm really confused at the first part of what you said. I never said there shouldn't be an age limit, I'm just saying that we shouldn't focus so much on the limit. We should instead be focusing on talking to our children about consequences and the reality of sex. And people don't even pay attention to the 16 age limit now. The age 16 (which actually varies in states) is only in place to protect a minor if they engage in sexual activity with someone over the age of 18. If that minor is under 16, then the adult would be charged with statutory rape. It has nothing to do with two people under the age of 16 having sex with eachother. In that case, there is nothing you can do. There is no law stating that they cannot have sex. And they do have sex.

And in NO WAY did I EVER state that 16 year olds SHOULD have sex. I simply stated that if they did, they are entirely capable of handling their consequences, whether they are ready to or not.

To be honest, this arguement can go on forever, because we both obviously have different views. So lets just agree to disagree.

I Think The Law Just Encourages Younger People To Want To Have Sex Underage, Purely Because It Is The Law, It MakesThem Think That,'Hey Wait A Second If Its Illegal We Must Be Missing Out On Something Here!' I see Why The Law Is In Place To Stop Pevy Older Men Taking Asvantage Of Younger People But I Think The Age A Person Decides To Lose Thier Virginity Should Be Up To Them, In A Way Saying That They Cant Untill They Are 16 Is A Litte Insulting To Growing Minds Because They Have Been Taught That They Can make Thier Own Decisions And How To Make Good Ones In School.
My Opinion On Before Marrige Is Wear A Hat, And Its Ok ;)

I think that is a fallacious, generalized statement that is unfounded.
