Is becoming like God good or evil?

I would like to restrict giving God any other attribute except for knowing good and evil in this thread. Just for simplicity.

I have two quotes I would like you to consider.

“Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.”

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

Knowing good and evil is the same as developing or gaining a moral sense. This is something that all governments and religions wish to develop in us and seems like a good idea to me.

If being perfect like God means that we must have the knowledge of good and evil, then Adam and Eve had to eat of the tree of knowledge ---- if they were to accomplish what most seem to think is a worthy goal. Morals. As God says in Eden, such is to have your eyes opened. A good thing IOW.

In the Jewish view, A & E did the right thing and they name it our elevation. In the Christian view, they did the wrong thing and call it our fall.

Is becoming as Gods, in the moral sense, good or evil?

If evil, pl
ease explain what is evil about developing a moral sense and following scriptures that tell us to be as Gods.

DL

I'll pretend like I believe in the Christian God for the sake of this discussion. This does not mean, I don't believe a God is possible. I'll use A&E to illustrate, but believe that A&E is a stupid story written by Man to influence the weak minded: :)

You don't have to be a God to have a moral sense. If you believe the story of Adam and Eve, they proved they had a thirst for knowledge and disagreed with God's decree not to take a taste from the tree of knowledge. Having a moral sense, means you have the ability to analyze a situation and make a choice. Morality is not blindly following rules because the big bad deity is going to punish you if you disobey. This is exactly why the traditional view of the Christian God is HUGELY flawed. Human beings don't gain a higher moral ground by following rules based on threats. They advance by discovering for themselves the path to higher levels. This is why based on the premise of this discussion, if there is a God anything like Christians believe, I don't believe God resorts to punishment to coerce his children into acting "properly".

Your reply is more biblical than what Christians believe.
"Test all things"
1 Thessalonians. 5:21

A & E tested and were punished for following scriptures an not blindly following. They were rewarded by having their eyes opened and gaining a moral sense.

In this, seems you and I are more Christian than Christians in this.

Good grief, we are on the wrong religious track but at least we are on the right moral one as we do not see a fall.

...and God was so pissed off not only did he punish A&E but all of their descendants too. I believe many Christians would just as soon get rid of the Old Testament. It does not mesh in with modern values. The God described in the O.T. is very different than the N.T. God. Maybe it was his evil twin, the Wicked God of the West? ;)

Btw, I would say we are on the right religious path. Any path that is based on self improvement and positives is far superior to paths based on avoiding punishment. I feel very confident that if there is a just, reasonable God (not the murderous tyrannical God imagined by man in the O.T.), he/she/it would be smiling at us. :D

You would be right.

I think you wrong though on many Christians, ---- in the U S only ----, would just as soon get rid of the Old Testament.

There are way too many literalists and fundamentals who want to follow the rapture ready traitors to humanity. They love to hate all in the other tribes too much.

Do you recall my post showing that one church going under when the preacher took the modern view that hell did not exist.

No one can hate as deeply as a Christian or Muslin and some of the other Abrahamic cults.

Check out how we inherited the God of war. Somewhat long but worth the time.

Our resident suedo-Christian just got put on ignore until he grows up and acts as real Christians are supposed to act. Not likely, lol.

GIA, those videos are on the long side... I'll try one when I have more time.

Only if you ignore the rest of humanity.
Mankind, in general, has the ability to hate and destroy those that compete for power and leaders frequently use the polarization that hate brings as a means to acquire/insure influence.

One only has to look at the hate you generate and direct at Christian theology to see the above process up close.

I did say "many", that does not have to equate to a majority. :) I watched about 10 min of the first video. So far so good. What strikes me most about Constantine is that for someone who supposedly adopted Christ as his standard, he certainly did not seem to follow Christ's teachings. I'm speaking of exerting force upon others. I'll watch the rest soon. :)

Unfortunately they are a bit long but I thought them worthwhile in that they explain how Christianity chose their God of war that Jews rejected for a God with morals.

Apparently there is a writer working on the next phase that will show how the next 4 emperors after Constantine also contributed, ----- forced down the throats of the church, ---- their policies.

I hope you are correct in this and that I generate much of it.

All people should hate human sacrifice and genocidal Gods.
