most of them didnt truly earn that money...i can tell you of backbreaking jobs that pay $10 an hour, and you are telling me an actor, no matter how good (or good looking) is truly worth $10 million for a movie?

if you honestly believe that then your mind is warped

Okay, but let's look at this with fiscal responsibility. The guy swinging the hammer has a much lower skill level than that of a business man or of an athlete. He is easily replaced by an open market filled with people willing to swing the hammer for $10/hour so his market is saturated. If it requires skills like say a plumber or an electrician they earn more because of skill level and labor union wage agreements. How many people are available to do back breaking labor and how many can perform the job of an athlete? They cross section is much greater than you are leading it to be in your point.

Yea I was thinking that while I was writing it, but I figured that seems to be the heart of the problem here.

I agree, but I try to steer clear of logical fallacies in debates.

in that case, pay everybody who works a very physical job $10 million a year

ill be waitin for my first check

Only problem with that is your back breaking work doesn't generate that much revenue. So 10 bucks an hour for you it is. This is the way the free economy works. If you don't like your situation, then do something to improve it. What you are talking about is socialism.

Anyway, this thread has deviated from it's original topic and I have to go to class.

i already said that i understand people are paid based on how many fans go to the games, how much they make selling tickets to the movie and all that

but where does it end? $25 million a year to play baseball? is that really reasonable?

not in my eyes....maybe to you people who see celebrities as gods and want to keep funding these huge salaries of theres, maybe its worth it to you

I don't see them as Gods. I see them as someone getting compensates for the vast revenue he's generating for the team. If he's not, then yes he's overpaid, there are athletes that are overpaid because they don't deliver. But there are those who make the brand name that much more marketable.

Also, you're falling into your own argument. You say they're Gods, but how come you're not complaining about the CEO's who make ridiculous salaries while they lay off thousands of workers in the process? You forgot about those guys? They might not get as much fanfare but they make even more than those celebrities you're ragging on so much.

the working man is what keeps america going...if it wasnt for truck drivers, no business would be able to run...we make an average of maybe $45,000 a year...this is much more important then entertainment

doctors keep people healthy, and alive...this is very important, much more important then any football game or movie....they maybe average $150,000 a year

teachers educate the youth of america...much more important then any movie or football game...they probably average $50,000 a year

theres alot of actors out there who are only famous because they know somebody, or because of there good looks...theres some actors i think i could act better then, and ive never acted before

and athletes are gifted, yes...but they have state of the art equipment and highly educated trainers, and are given almost everything they need to help them get where they are now...they are NOT worth $10 million a year, i dont care how good they are

The working man is in a saturated market

Doctors on average you are right but in a private practice that number changes greatly

Teachers are paid by our taxes, I think I pay enough taxes

Actors yes they stink on ice, but they make what they make because the revenue stream is there.

Athletes same as actors.

They deserve every penny they get.

If doing something is going to get you ridiculous amounts of money then of course your going to do it if you're capable. They have the skill to exploit the entertainment business in sports and get themselves alot of money. Good on them. Condemning them because you have failed to exploit this oppurtunity like they have is stupid. It's not of matter of "they don't do alot of work" or "it's just not fair". If you've got the means to benefit yourself then it would be idiotic not to do so. They've basically been very successful at "adapting to their environment."

However, just because they have more money doesn't mean they are better off than you. It depends on what you value.

Dana, if you don't think these people aren't earning their money then you obviously don't understand what they're sacrificing. Watch a Hall of Fame induction. The majority of the players that get inducted can barely walk up to the podium, because their bodies are trashed after the years of abuse. It's insane what they put their bodies through and keep playing. I've seen LB's playing with broken wrists, DB's playing with broken hands, and QB's playing with broken jaws or legs. All for our entertainment and a few million dollars.

Sorry I didn't mean to make this just a thread about Football but sports in general. But I guess you're right. Fuck I'd cry and call my mommy over a skinned knee :willy_nilly:
