Ok so I wasted a bunch more time reading the same baseless argument from Retro and rebuttals from Tim, AA and Natasha and was waiting for the screaming to start saying the three of them should get their heads outa their ass. I'm assuming Retro must be in a half decent mood today because that didn't happen. :thumbup The aforementioned battle brought back an old memory though. Many years ago I was watching two guys in a fight and the weaker one got knocked to the ground with the other guy on top beating the everloving shit outa him. After a little while the guy stopped throwing punches and the guy on the bottom said " you had enough yet." Retro reminds me of the guy on the bottom. :24:

So if you get pulled over by the cops and he says he's just going to give you a written warning, you bitch at him and he ends up giving you a ticket, he lied to you? I think you should just keep your mouth shut and you can deal with it later.

Did this guy think that he was going to accomplish anything by making a scene? Did he think that if he put up enough of a stink that they would just throw up their hands and go away? Get fucking real... They were there to enforce the law, that's it. They aren't suppose to determine if the law is right or make a judgment call. They only had one thing to do that day, collect the basketball hoops that weren't removed by the homeowners. It's not like they sat around earlier in the day deciding whose balls to break, they were told to go and enforce the law and they did.
So this IDIOT homeowner was fighting with the wrong people. You don't bitch at the people trying to enforce the law, you bitch at those who make the law and the ones that can change it....

That's exactly the way it went down.

This guy acted like a total dick from the second they arrived. If he would have treated these officers with respect, I am sure they would have left the hoop for him, I know I would have. Acting like a total tool doesn't ever get you anywhere

I agree he acted like a dick. No denying that but your example is not how it went down. Now if the cop in your example said "No i never said i was giving you a just a written warning" that would be more accurate of how it went down

They were never going to leave it with him. Its their law to take it and you get it back after you pay the fine. they obviously only told him that so he would shut the fuck up so they can get the pole



So lets just say a kid was going to school, he had an ipod with him and started listening to it and the teacher confiscated it and said you can have it back at the end of class. Well at the end of class he went to get his Ipod and the teacher said No. The boy said you said I could have it back at the end of class, you lied. The teacher said No i did not say that.

and some kid in the class video taped it with his phone

Does that make it ok that the teacher Lied?

May not be apples to apples but its the same principle of the matter

Like I've said on numerous occasions... it isn't about the goddamned basketball hoop to me. It's about the lies, and symbolism of the slow but steady erosion of our rights and liberty as American citizens. It's obviously a concept that a lot of you aren't able to grasp. That's fine, if people don't care, then there's nothing that I can do to make them care. There were lawyers involved, and that should have immediately put an injunction in place preventing the removal of at least his basketball hoop until the matter had been settled. He sent letters back regarding the issue and never heard anything back.

Also, like I said earlier... I played baseball and basketball out in the street when I was growing up, I turned out just fine and didn't ever run the danger of being run over. It's just another example of this country turning into a complete nanny state.

If you don't like one of the rules, then fight to change it, but it was most likely added because of some other concerned citizens complaint...

No, it's not that I don't have a legitimate argument... it's that if we're going to go so far as to remove basketball hoops in the interest of keeping children safe, then we need to take everything away. Why remove basketball hoops when kids can just play street hockey instead.

If you had paid attention, the guy was already working on trying to change the law.
 
what would be funny is if the person who called to complain also complains that kids these days need to stop watching tv, playing video games and surfing the internet so much an go outside an be active. That would be ironic. :p

I don't hold grudges Retro but you keep beating the same drum. Even though others poked holes in your arguement you just go on & on & on & on & on on & on & on & on & on on & on & on & on & on on & on & on & on & on on & on & on & on & on on & on & on & on & on without giving a shit about what anyone else has said. In most cases if someone disagrees with you I doubt you even pay attention to what's been said. Then when you decide others refuse to subscribe to your way of thinking you resort to personal slams of one fashion or another. I suppose in real life you might be one of those people that start yelling when your case is lost. Are you?

Sure thing chief. You're another one that hasn't even bothered to pay attention to my point here. It isn't about the basketball hoop, it's about the symbolism. It's about the lying, and the fact that the government has this much control... to the point where basketball hoops that somehow infringe upon the right of way are illegal because it means that kids play in the street. The fact that the state of Delaware felt it necessary to waste more money to take care of what honestly amounts out to be a non-issue. Hence the title of the thread... that the police don't have anything better to do. Apparently neither does DelDOT or whatever other governmental agency was involved. They have the 6th highest debt in the entire country, and they're wasting money on shit like this. That is my point, which is something that all of you seem to be ignoring.

There's no point in yelling about anything like this, you can think what you like, and it honestly doesn't bother me in the least bit. I'm going to continue to hold to my belief that this was a complete non-issue, and not worthy of wasting taxpayer time and money to resolve. I'm also holding to the issue that it's bullshit for a governmental official (whether they be from code enforcement, law enforcement, or DelDOT) to blatantly lie to a citizen and (in my opinion) attempt to subvert their first amendment rights.

He wasn't causing a riot, and in my opinion he was justifiably upset over the situation. He believed that he had taken the proper legal steps to try and resolve the issue. It seems to be pretty simple to me.
 
They were infringing on his first amendment rights...what...his right to free speech? Should every citizen just be allowed to bad mouth an officer with no repercussion? (I realize this lady may not have necessarily been an officer as she wasn't in uniform, but there WAS A cop there.) I'd like to see that start taking place, then. We'll see what happens.
 
I'd have to watch the video again, but the only badmouthing of her directly that I heard was him calling her a liar. Which she obviously was in this situation. She denied having ever told him the pole would be put in his driveway and then told him to shut up and go back in his house. Seems to me that it was an attempted violation of his first amendment rights. Those are the two things that I take issue with in all of this... and what they represent.

If a cop told you to shut up and go back into your house, I would listen. Because they can arrest you for disorderly conduct or whatever. Like I said in the beginning, if the situation is as unlawful as you and he seem to think, he shouldn't have acted that way on camera, and then he'd have physical evidence of the situation to take them to court. Now it just looks like everyone acted like an ass and the whole thing is null.

I know what your fucking point is already because you've stated it a gazillion times and it means nothing in the grand scheme of things but you continue to keep beating it to death.

Why don't you just accept the fact that......
- it's against the law to have it there.
- he was being a complete and utter dick and was damn lucky he didn't get arrested
- he had received numerous written warnings and still chose to flaunt the law which btw is a great example for his kids. Ya... the ones using the pole which was erected in a place where it shouldn't have been.
- he's spoiled it for his kids because he didn't erect the fucking thing on his own driveway. Kind of selfish that he didn't want to give up parking access on his own land for the sake of his kids. I suppose that's a topic for another thread so I'll leave it at that.

To sum it up in case you missed it again.

It was in a location which violated the law and the selfish stupid asshole chose to bring a knife to a gunfight. If he had any brains he would go about having the law changed by way of the democratic process that you seem to be so fond of yet fail to understand.
