I personally think it's awesome that the police have nothing better to do

than to steal a man's basketball hoop, deny his first amendment rights, and lie to him... on camera.

Yay for fucked up law enforcement!

From the sound bite at the beginning it's obvious that some sort of battle has been brewing between the residents and what ever city was involved. I would assume they have been breaking a bylaw of some sort and were advised to remove the hoops, which btw are hanging over a public road. Because they chose not to remove the hoops a bylaw enforcement officer was called out along with a city crew. The state patrol was there to ensure peace was kept. Find the entire story so we can see what's really been taking place.

Thanks for finding that. Interesting that there's always more to the story. It is as I expected. Here's a snip from your link.

" Since that time, the eight homeowners with basketball hoops in violation of state law were contacted multiple times via certified mail about the need to remove the obstacles from the public right-of-way zone. One resident voluntarily did so. The remainder did not. Because the basketball hoops were not removed, state law requires that DelDOT remove the goals to protect the public. The final goal was successfully removed by the state at approximately noon on March 25. "

and these same people that refused, would be the first to "sue" if the bloody thing fell and killed/hurt a kid...

Surely they have their own yards to put them in...what are they doing in the street anyway, its dangerous....good move by the cops I reckon....

I suppose they don't have enough pavement on their own yard and that's why they are located hanging over the roadway.

I just read a few comments on the FB link....

Was the "lying lady" the cop, or what? Thats what most seem upset about, the fact that the "cop" lied.

and what is DelDOT anyway?

yes thats the big thing here. its not the fact that the poles were removed. its the fact that rights were taken away and the cop lied to the people on camera

Deldot = Delaware department of transportation

ahh yes I did mr smart arse...and it looks like its hanging over the road to me....didnt know a basket ball would bounce too good on grass/dirt, and I didnt know the verge was considered your "yard";)

and I've lived in a friggin cul de sac and been a mum for over 20 years, and they ARE dangerous....speaking from experience.

In most cities you don't own the dirt right up to the road but you are responsible for cutting the grass and removing snow if there's a sidewalk there.

The lady was not a cop. She was probably a bylaw enforcement officer and she obviously fucked up when she said he could keep the pole. He had his chance to remove the pole and he chose not to. Bye bye pole.

What rights were taken away Haus?
