If only 'twere to me. I just have some odd hitch with the whole thought. Perhaps trauma from being called a fag too many times as a kid? That would be the perfect escape for my ideas, but nah, it is not.

also: mmmm.... Peas.... :p

I just don't understand how someone elses sex life would bother you or anyone else for that matter.

I don't understand why labels are given in both directions. If a person doesn't agree with the homosexual lifestyle they are labeled a homophobe. I don't agree with the Democrats but I'm certainly not a Demophobe.

Our society is so intent on labeling people that it forgets to just let things be. I could care less if you're gay or straight personally.

The only true homophobes, in my opinion, are those that seek out to beat up the gays for no reason. I'm tired of our society being so politically correct that people can't speak their minds without fear.

I think in some cases, what you called being too politically correct is just being considerate.

I think it's the fact of why people don't agree with people being homosexual which is confusing. I mean why does it bother people. Other peoples relationships (gay or straight) shouldn't bother people.

But why care if it bothers them? Its their prerogative, really, right?

A lot of people don't keep their opinions to themselves, it seems the point of disagreeing with certain lifestyles is to constantly run their fat mouths about it lol. Maybe they aren't bashing gay peoples' skulls in (how sweet!) but they're making snide comments in public, or voting against gay human rights, etc. It's very negative.

Is someone hating people because of the colour of their skin also their prerogative? same difference imo

It is their prerogative. This is the problem with society. You can't make people love everyone, it just doesn't happen. Is it right? Hell no.

Homosexuality won't stop the world from turning.

It's ironic that religion can consider homosexuality "unnatural."
I ask, what is more 'natural'; that animals and humans have been practising homosexuality for thousands of years, or that a big invisible bloke controls the world and made a virgin pregnant and had a son that transformed bread into fish and shit....

Of course you can't but if people are going to voice those opinions, like on here, I also have the right to voice mine and question theirs, don't you think?

It will just turn all off balance and shit.

My point wasn't to say it is right or wrong to voice an opinion, I want that. I'm talking about the labeling that is going on. One should not be deemed a homophobe because they don't agree with it just as much as the slurs shouldn't be slung around by those that don't believe in that lifestyle. I'm saying both sides are wrong.

People should be free to voice their opinions. However, the government should not believe in one or the other, but allow both, equally, giving equal bennies to both sides. This includes marriage, health benefits, tax benefits, whatever. There should be no limitation because of your sexual orientation.

Ahh, if only such a utopia would exist. But alas, reality strikes down too many desires. :(

I just don't understand how someone elses sex life would bother you or anyone else for that matter.

A human's self is affected by four things that interact with one another: Their own disposition, their own surroundings, how their disposition affects or does not affect their own surroundings and how their surroundings affect or do not affect their own disposition. My surroundings affect or do not affect me just as much as I affect or do not affect them.

And as a footnote: Very good arguments, Niamh. I thank you for bringing me food for thought. :thumbup

Well, someone who hates gay people (irrationally as they have absolutely no effect on their lives) is homophobic. I don't see what the problem is there, I irrationally hate spiders and I have no problem being called arachnophobic

:clap 'Nuf said for me. This was a perfect point imo. I promise (And please note, this is in writing, so it is a binding promise) to try and work on myself for "no limitation because of your sexual orientation". I've never thought of myself as a homophobe, but there's always room for improvement.
