Why would a professor have to work for free if education is? There are other countries that have free college. Hell, California has free college education if you are a resident.

So it's not free, taxpayers still pay the wages. lol

Either way; 20 billion here for future college students, or xx billion for professors' wages, spend the damn money so kids can get ahead.

I'm curious how well this program works in CA... is it a good education? Is it cost effective to the tax payers? :dunno

I think that's an excelent idea. Over here my goverment wants to give 3000€ for every baby to the family, but I would say it's better to give it to those kids that choose to go to University when they grow up. Specially in the US where University is so damn expensive.

If you don't mind my asking Ron, how many different scholarships do you have?

That is an excellent point. Pay for the kid's education if they choose to further it but don't give them the money if they don't. It would save money from being wasted and also encorage kids more, to further their studies.

If not completely free, mostly. And it should be of quality. Some of the best Universities in Europe are public and you pay no more than 700€ per year.

:eek

I need to move!

We probably have close to $35,000 in school loan debt. It's killing us, but what else can we do?? Don't go to school and not be able to support ourselves and our children vs. go to college and rack up an enormous debt.

Nice idea, but do you really believe it is going to happen. If I were running for President, I would tell the people stuff like that too. How does she think it is going to work?

There are probably several ways to balance the national budget to make this idea work, but didn't the article say it's basically in the "idea" stage, and hasn't been thought about too much or researched?

I go to a private school and is about €5000 a year, sometimes more. The public university near me is not so good, whereas mine is one of the best. However the very best one is public. I think goverments have to provide us good education. Not everyone is rich or has very good grades, but still could be the best profesionals.
