Yes, but why is he likely to have a gun when he wouldn't here? As I have already stated it's because of your gun laws. If I was in your country of course I would rather have a gun to protect myself from him but I would much rather the gun laws be tightened so I don't NEED a gun to protect myself.

... You're scapegoating out of the answer. Regardless of the damn gun laws here, if someone breaks into your house, what your basically saying here, you'd rather have a bike chain and possibly be forced into a close hand and hand combat with an intruder?

Yes, thats correct James, I'd rather have a fight with someone where I wouldn't have to worry about a high chance of someone getting killed because we're involved in a shootout as we both have easy access to guns. If we both have guns, one of us will likely be shot dead, 50/50 chance it may be me. If we both have less harmful weapons 50/50 chance someone will get injured maybe me, both suck but I'd rather be injured than killed.

No, because the gun he might have is gained off the street. No criminal with 1% of a brain will use a legal gun to commit a crime, let alone a murder or assault.

This is where we're going round in circles, guns arn't so readily available off the streets here and I personally believe that that is because the're not so readily available legally too.

Ok if you're a correctional officer (remember the hypothetical situation I just posed to you for you to answer about?) you've been trained on how to handle and fire your firearm. A criminal with an illegal weapon is most likely a horrid shot, has absolutely no training and is looking for something to steal. You surprise him with a cocked weapon and your chances are better than his.

If I broke into Bacons place and he surprised me with a weapon pointing at my head. If I tried to fire at him there is a better chance of him putting me on my ass than of me putting him on his. This is my point I'm trying to make.

But you would rather go into hand to hand combat with someone. As AEF said, you'd rather have a level playing field while defending your life, home and wife.

I sure as hell wouldn't.

No, its because the culture in your country is naturally less violent than America's.

Put yourself in this country and stop speaking of England - this entire thread is about the American right to bear arms.

thats the thing no matter how tight you make the gun laws its not going ot make things safe because the criminals will always have access to the guns

Well personally without trying to sound racist from what I've heard on this thread, a lot of you are gun crazed nutters so I really don't give a shit about your country and am glad I live here in a more civilized place, thanks! Ok., we're not perfect but at least we have less gun crime and gun obsessed loonies than you, enjoy shooting and worrying about being shot.:)

I don't worry about it because there is less chance of me being shot than there is of me being Tboned in an intersection anyway.

I completely understand your stance on it, I just want you to understand mine. I don't own any guns but I sure would love to. When you use them for their purpose it's nothing but fun and it's a great hobby, also educational.

A society with guns doesn't make it less civilized. if anything having the ability to procure and own a means to guard against tyranny is a merit of civilization.

Well I am trying to understand you guys point of view, but sorry I don't. I just find it sad that I should have to justify my countrys gun law when the stats prove it works better than yours. I also find it sad, because you all complain when another mass shooting happens over there but you are more passionate about defending your right to own guns rather than minimalising that happening again. If you can come up with a realistic way of stopping mass shootings without making it hard to own guns, then I'm all ears.:)

The way we can minimalize ALL violence is a societal change.

What I don't think you get is the fact that the illegal gun trade will always be around no matter what our government does.

Isn't it at least worth trying something though?

And James, bollocks, that amendment is over 200 years old, if you don't like it, it's not difficult to change, I'm sure power of the world USA who is buddy buddy in international affairs with our country sees no threat from us whatsover now!

Well, if trying means taking people's guns away, or making it so hard to get one it infringes on our right to own one, then it will never work. You will never get rid of guns in America.

Yeah right mate, the second we turn our soulder on you tommies is the second you start making things all posh and nosh!
