Never ending saga. :D

Anyways carrying on. Unless you're handicapped and can't stand I think you should stand for the anthem.

Nope, sorry, aint going to happen mate!;) I'll just content myself as a good guy as I'm one of the few who dosen't boo the other countries national anthem.;)

I don't stand for the national anthem, or any other anthem, don't see the point tbh, to me they are just songs really

I think the USA national anthem is pretty damn awesome. Certainly one of the best if not the best. Filled with so much pride and emotion. You can just feel that pride in the air when that anthem plays at events such as the olympics, superbowl and whatnot or in historical events. I recall vividly the time of 9/11 with the World Trade Towers etc when they played the anthem against the montage of the brave and selfless heroes who gave of themselves selfishly for others and I will never forget that as long as I live. Say what you wish, it does evoke a powerful emotion in you.

Whether played with the music alone, sung without music or combination thereof it is a powerful piece, no disputing that IMO.

i think CB pointed out thta this was all about respect, and it is ,respect for a country and its people, and about manners.

i have found the majority of americans to be very patriotic and put great store by their flag and their anthem and so wouldnt dream of being so rude as to offend by not standing ,in order to make a silly point out of not doing so...to be honest lifes too short to even bother ,and since we and america have what is often referred to as a special relationship i believe that it would be quite of order to do such a thing.

i find it quite difficult to understand that a non american who is happy to take a living ,a home and education for his children etc etc shopuld want to cut off the hand that feeds so to speak

Cut off the hand that feeds? lol! that's taking it WAAAAAAAAAAAY out of context.

And for that matter. What makes you think it's rude to stay seated? I do this because I don't feel that I should. Also it's never to make a point.

So, you're saying we have America to thank for these things? I'm confused.

I agree with some of the second paragraph though... America does seem to be a lot more patriotic than some other countries... it's probably one of the biggest cultural differences between America and Australia (perhaps apart from the relative importance of religion in each society).

Don't worry about the first sentence of my last post, I understand where debbie was coming from now.
