Depressed again are you Minor? What a humorless life you must lead. Grow up.

If you did not act like a jerk, some might say the typical ugly American, you would not get called on it quite so often. Your words say more than your smileys can cover up.

Now who is name calling. Watch yourself would hate to see get banned for your lack of maturity. BTW, I wasn't born in the US.
Second, just because you lack the ability to see and understand humor doesn't mean the average person does.

Why wouldn't we recognize and respect them? :)

I thank you for your respect which you seem to. It just seems unfortunate that most Americans dont give a fuck or like Struass seem to belittle it. I thank you for your respect though.

America is a big and diverse nation, not all think the same here. Despite what you see on youtube or funny videos not all Americans are jerks and you will find many have a deep respect for military other than our own. You will be surprised much of that comes from US military.

This site has given me that insight. There are still American jerks who live up to tthe stereotype an some are found here but I'm glad to see people for who they are nd not just a national stereotype, though some do live up to that!:)

Strauss doesn't respect the British? , or their military ? :24:.
He is a jerk but .. oh well ..never mind it would probably be lost on you guys .
Most Americans you say ? .
I know personally know no American who did not give a fuck , or wished a British defeat .
The fact that America was of so little help to Britain during this mess can be easily explained .
The Argentine Govt was a right wing dictatorship , our govt was ran by the right wing , A. Haig ---Reagan . We supported , and still do these govts .
Reagan affectionaly called the dictator " the magnificent general" :eek
Killing and torturing thousands of Unionists , liberals and leftists was the order of the day.
Some South American Govts also opposed the British , but the people of South America --- the people of the U.S. were always firmly behind the British . This is true to this day . Everyone { at least most } knew what the monster Galtieri was .
He should have been put to wall and shot .
As far as support ? the French should be considered . They suspended all tech aid to Argentina for the Exocet anti-shipping missile , stopped all shipment , in fact , stopped all export anywhere, in case they be transferred to Galtieri Govt .
If that wasn't done , many ships including a couple of carriers may be resting on the bottom .
Trust me on that point .
As far as honoring the Soldiers -- well done !. >f

If you do a little self examination you might find your response a bit humorous considering it comes from the forum participant with the highest percentage of JK smileys per post. I did not call you a jerk, I said you're acting like a jerk. There is a difference. Either you have a mean sense of humor, or you use smileys to mitigate purposely saying hurtful things, because you use humor primarily to belittle others.

Now there is another possibility. When someone like Peter Parka wants to do a tribute thread to soldiers and one of your responses is:
3rd World? I agree, judging whether a country is third world or not is a matter of perspective. From the British point of view I can see you believing that Argentina is a formidable foe.

Maybe your good buds with Peter, and this is just good natured joking around. But it's not the first time you've put someone down based on where they are from, specifically in your words a "second rate country". And being on the receiving end of your barbs with lots of smileys tacked on, it feels like your tactic is to say exactly what you want to , then pile on the smileys to make it seem like a joke. I also admit that text communications as compared to other forms of face to face communications has its limits and its misunderstandings. Maybe I'm wrong and your just one big happy guy who likes teasing incessantly. :)

there are times and places where we can all have a good laugh and take the piss out of each others military prowess.

Why don't we start a vietnam thread and I can laugh at all the fucking losers who went over there and got there asses kicked, and laugh at the USA.

not really, since vietnam is technically a french country, and they won.... *whistles*
:eek The French had their asses handed to them at Dien Ben Phu and withdrew completely. If that's a victory, then the US won too!

Actually, this thread is a great example of the concept that is something is said by enough people after awhile people believe it. I didn't see Strauss insult or belittle British troops and he's pointed out he was born in Great Britain for Christsakes. If you go back and re-read all the posts you'll see that his post was completely misinterpeted.

This is a great deal of the pot calling the kettle black. You need the self examination--you spend about 98% of your time here insulting Republicans/conservatives. In fact, I rarely see you post anything else. Of everyone one on this forum--you dish out the most ridicule per post--easily 1/4th to 1/2 your posts. Most of the rest of post significantly in other threads or on other topics. You seem exclusively to post negatives in the Political Debate section often starting negative threads. So take a look in the mirror!

Actually just find any thread about the Iraq war. If I started one to thank the soldiers who have died there, including British, I'd get a rash of negative posts--in fact by some of the same people arguing here to leave this as an honor the military thread. Its good sometimes to see what its like with the shoe on the other foot! ;)

My personal view is that any soldier that has died for his/her country should be honored and politics left out of such threads that honor these people.

So again--I raise my glass to all the British soldiers that have died defending their country, regardless of which war or how such war is perceived poltically! :thumbup

There is a subtle but distinct difference between the military and government in democratic countries and one would take care to learn the difference before saying something silly. I can damn the politicians that sent Brit and American troops to Iraq but those troops get my full respect and honour. They didn't decide that Iraq needed to be invaded but when the call came they obeyed without question and did their jobs. The Vietnam war has been done to death but my respect goes to the 60,000 troops that died there, and my condolences to their families and friends. All the doubts after all the subsequent years does nothing to lessen their efforts.

If somebody wishes to critisize the political decisions that sent troops to various places around the world then feel free to start a thread about it but leave this thread to the honour of the troops, no matter what flag is stitched on their uniforms.

Yeah I need to be lectured on patriotism by a Cuban refugee. ;)

I suspect my points were to deep for the learned members here, so it goes. :D

Your points were on the mark.

But me thinks you miss the point.

The people here are a bit more delicate about the directions threads go.

If they feel offended that is not ours to judge.

Now in a couple years if I am still around I might then tell them to fuck off and get a life. :D
