I'm not saying western civilization, I'm saying civiliazation. People are still around because it's only been 100 years since aircraft first flew, 60 years since the nuclear bomb was first detonated and 6 years since some fucked up Islamic mutha-fucka's hijacked 4 planes and killed over 3000 people. You see the time line getting shorter here?
~ 104 years*

Thats a enormous stretch of the imagination, considering the great majority of wealth and military might lays within countries that will never let that happen. I mean, humanity has survived much much much worse predicaments. Look up the black plague when you get a chance. The human population of Europe and other parts of the world almost ceased to exist, yet again, here we are.

How so? I'm not involving any outside sources, like our military or anyone else's military. I don't recall too many other country's jumping in and helping us during the civil war, but then again, that goes back to "progress", I guess.
Well, if you have no problem with the theoretical situation of an entire people killing each other off, then I don't see the difference between what you think and what a fundamentalist thinks.

I was estimating the years, sorry, I'll break it down to the hour next time.

Black Plague? You're going to compare this to a natural disaster? That's what it was you know, nature kicking us in the collective asses and saying she's still in charge.
Look at our military right now. We're still considered the best equiped, best trained and most efficient professional army in the world. And yet, we just can't get Iraq to help themselves. Why is that?

I was simply giving an example of a far worse situation to yours, one that we as a collective species survived.

We can't get iraq to work properly because we're trying to force OUR kind of Democracy on them. Who says democracy is the only right way to go? Theres also massive infighting and ethnic/religious divides.

:wtf:

So, it's better for someone else to commit genocide? I'm never said that I wanted to see the entire Islamic community gone, but what would happen if we left it up to them? I mean, bring home my shipmates and fellow military men and women, and let the locals fix the problem. They have to want to fix the problem in order for the problem to be fixed. It's going to cost more lives, and that's unavoidable. But let it be their lives so that they understand that it's going to take sacrifice to make it work. At this point it's like a plague, to quote you from earlier: Kill the source, kill the disease.

Certainly not the end of an entire country. Things balance out on their own.

I'm all for bringing them home as soon as possible.

What species, The Europeans? They by far suffered the worst losses in life, although other port cities did suffer as well. But that wasn't humans killing humans just because they didn't want them wearing jeans or listening to rock and roll.

And there's only Democracy, not our Democracy and their Democracy. The theory cannot be changed without changing the name. It's the infighting that's killing them! Do we just blow a whistle and send them to their rooms without dinner?

The problem with calling them a country, is that they don't consider themselves a country...they want to be independant nations, a Kurdish, a Sunni and a Shite nation. Saddam had an idea to bring balance to his country: kill all those who opposed him...Iran is doing the same crap. The Palenstinians aren't too far behind (although they are willing to at least talk to Israel), and then let's take a look at Saudi Arabia: What have they done lately, besides jack up the price of a barrel of oil, to have any of our respect? They were only a few weeks weeks away from becoming a territory of Iraq back in 1990.

There are many kinds of democracy. Democracy in itself might not be what would work best for them.

I'm all for splitting the country up, in theory. That would solve a lot of the problems.

Don't for one second think that the US isn't innocent in the "kill people/leaders who we do not like" game. We've done it many times. This concept isn't new to any government or power structure.

What have we done to have the world respect us, lately?

Speaking of 'the world' and it's 'respect' . . .

Most times doing what is right is not going to earn a person respect, it will however earn one some self-respect. For example: look at people that do what is right at work - they are called whistle blowers . . . and look how they are treated.

Generally speaking - the ones that do the right thing and are most highly respected in the long run are in the minority not the majority.

but see, we do things that are stupid, and don't make sense.

Like not signing the Kyoto protocols.

ok....i've read this thread......and i want to make a few points

first off.....american troops have never been in basra.....it was british controlled.....the british troops are on the outskirts now......watching to see if things work out

america might have the best equipped troops but they're very far from being the best trained and most efficient....the capture of saddams two sons emphasizes this point.....the S.A.S. had infiltrated the building they were occupying, they dressed as arabs, they spoke the language and the just went as they pleased.....what they wanted to do was go in under the cover of darkness, slit the throats of all but saddams sons and bring them out alive for trial.......it never worked out that way......the U.S. military wanted to show the people back home that they were succeeding so they took the operation over...the rest is history

the canadian army is not as near as big as the U.S army but.....they're all trained to ranger standard

as for these idiots killing women.....religion is a front.....all they crave is the power...blacked out windows, very mysterious....islam is fast becoming the most backward religion in the history of mankind, there might be a woman tethered to her kitchen stove who has the brain to cure cancer,or refine space travel or even find a alternative source to fossil fuels

they thrive on fear.....motivated by the sense of power it gives them,if the truths known they probably couldn't give a shit about they're precious islamic values

Hell, look at all the countries that DID sign Kyoto.

What good has it done exactly? Name one country that has met any of the standards they agreed to.

Global warming isn't something that can be improved at the drop of the hat. These things take time to be improved and will not be improved while the two biggest polluters, USA and China won't take any action to stop global warming.

The US didn't sign the protocols because they thought it might interfere a little bit with THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR that their industries crank out. FORBID we sacrifice some little things so we lessen the amount we shit on the Earth every year.

I'm anti UN.
I think thats fairly unreasonable. The UN can work if we let it.

Most of the countries that signed the protocols as a whole are much more green than the US.
