Personally, I'm enjoying the ride and when it ends, there's nothing more than a dirt nap.

You should read some of the works of Socrates if you haven't already:p

Though the term "dirt" you used shows man's way of thinking in general when it comes to the world around him. Given time (most likely a blink of an eye when you're dead) you won't be in dirt. There is a good chance however with the rate of our population growth, that if you're actually buried after your death, they will have to remove your remains anyways to make room for construction, and the demise of the earth will be long after they remove you from the ground.

For myself, my ashes are going back to be spread upon the places I love on this earth (at least I hope LOL).

A flush down the toilet is just as good as a whitewater ride...And a lot cheaper.

Good guess, but only a portion.

That said, one of the better funerals I've ever attended in my life was hooking up with three guys from Michigan on a creek in WV who had driven back just to spread their buddies ashes.

Talking about cheap, I must admit that when my father and I were looking for a casket for my mother, and the funeral home director was showing us prices and sample of the different coffins, the funeral home director's jaw dropped open when I asked him with a serious face if he had anything a lot cheaper, say in the line of a card board box LOL

I believe the soul can exist outside the body in the form of energy after death. There is so much that the human eye cannot see and so much the human ear cannot hear. So it's possible for an entity to exist beyond our line of consciousness. We already know there are sounds made that are way lower than the human ear can pick up.

Funeral homes are a legal racket that takes advantage of a families emotions. The average funeral is now over $6,500, but commonly exceeds $10,000. I've buried my dad, mom and oldest brother - and I had to watch as the funeral home staff sold all these "services" to the grieving widows, children and siblings.

I'll never forget the first time I saw a coffin showroom and the prices they wanted for them....geeze Louize.

Wonder what this funeral cost? That dude on the motorcycle is dead:

On that we agree completely.

You haven't thought of it already, you should check out your local veteran's cemetery. Mom's buried at one and my dad will literally go on top of her when he goes. It's actually a beautiful place, more so than where my wife's grandparents are buried. I thought about it, but both my wife and I would like to be cremated and spread out somewhere.

It's a romantic and appealing notion. My current will says spread my ashes over the mountains of West Virgina...

A portion of mine hopefully off the New river bridge. At least one other area out in Utah over a favorite Canyon. Hopefully our son doesn't spend the money for travel on something else:24:

Good luck with that request. With the price of fuel, you'll be getting a trip on the class #2 porcelain rapids while the kid heads to Hawaii.

Did you hear what one gay lover did with his dearly departed's ashes? He put him in some red hot habanero chili and let him tear his ass up one more time. :p

Pfffft...I couldn't care less what they do with my carcass when I croak.

My parents are buried in this gothic, historic place in Atlanta. The plots were gifted to them:

You may be right, but I'd like to think I'm raising my son the same way my father did me, and as he (my son) get's older, hopefully he'll realize why I do the things I do.

However, even if some of my ashes aren't laid where I'd like, I've been granted one of the greatest gifts this life has to offer at those places, to FEEL free and alive enjoying every breath I take (and not having much money to boot LOL). That's something IMO that too many people take for granted.

IMO you can live to 90 and not once truly feel alive.

There is a certain amount of narcissism in human beings - we want to believe that there is something bigger, there is a meaning to life, there is something ongoing for our souls. We are finite beings and don't WANT to be.

Personally, I'm enjoying the ride and when it ends, there's nothing more than a dirt nap. Oh, the concept of reincarnation is always intriguing to me - the "recycling" of souls... and I always think about nasty people coming back as a dung fly and having to work their way back up from the shit heap.

If there is an eternity or "heaven" and I actually get in??? Score. But otherwise??? I think the end is the end is the end.

You don't know that. I like how people like you are always 100% adamant in your beliefs. The thought that our souls don't die is fascinating to me but I cannot be 100% certain. But it's not within the the realm of absurdity when you delve into the science of it all.

And for the record I want to be cremated... We are over populating the Earth with caskets of human remains. Burn me and set me free in the vast expanse of the seas so that I may become the world traveler that I've always wanted to be in one form or another.

What EXACTLY do you mean by people like me????

Did you not read what I wrote???

Of course you can't be 100% certain about your SOUL. The fucking Pope isn't even certain, is he??? Because I'm sure that we all would've heard about how wonderful heaven was should he have gone on an extended visit for a couple of days - and then came back.

I'm not ADAMANT. Perhaps you ought to take a language and writing comprehension class.

Although the law may agree with you, life is still life, just as killing is still killing.

Humans seem to value their life more than the other animals that are here on this earth. Nothing wrong with that, but generally speaking it's usually only man who screws the world up.

As much as I'd love to be all eco-friendly with you guys and get cremated, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to die. So if I get cremated, it'll be a huge mistake, since I clearly won't be dead.

Ideally, I'd go for a crypt, or a mausoleum, and a coffin with an escape hatch. Just in case.
