Hi everyone :)

In this topic we'll talk about what the Koran/bible said about the earth:

1-Bible:

rev/john 7:1 : """ After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind would blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. """.

the original used word in greek: γωνίας

means: corners.

So according to the bible: earth has 4 corners !!! is the earth: square ???

matthew 4:8 :""" Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. """

how could he see all the world from the mountain if the earth is spherical ??? this is not possible !!! ... it's possible just in one case: if the earth is flat !!!.

is that true ?!

2-Koran:

Quran az-zumar 5 : """ He created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): He makes the Night overlap the Day, and the Day overlap the Night ( this meaning is clearly shown as a spherical earth in arabic ) : He has subjected the sun and the moon (to His law): Each one follows a course for a time appointed. Is not He the Exalted in Power - He Who forgives again and again?

Quran 79:30 : """ And we have made the earth egg shaped. """

How could koran know that the earth is not flat ?

So:

which one is right ? Koran ? or Bible ?

it's for you to choose the anwser !

cordially - sylviane :)

The Bible also says this:

Isaiah 40:22 (New International Version)
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.

So, I take it that the Bible says that the Earth is round. I think the "four corners" mentioned is not literal, but figurative.

when the scriptures were written the world was the known world......so it would have been point a to point be......hence the thinking the world was flat

with islam being a more modern religion the writer of the koran would have been more in the know with the known world being pretty much as it is now......hence the understanding

and i think this thread was intended to glorify the koran as more forward thinking

Hi bro :)

thank you for adding this verse ! .. this is another verse telling us: the bible thinks that the earth is flat ( with circular border ! ).
has the earth a border ???

My friend, the word " circle " ( 2D ) does not mean: "sphere" ( 3D ) .. and it is not used figuratively ! .. why ? because it is also used in:

French: cercle ..... circle.
German: kreis ..... circle.
And so on !
...

The original language of this verse is written in Hebrew:

circle: חוּג

הַיֹּשֵׁב עַל־ חוּג הָאָרֶץ וְיֹשְׁבֶיהָ כַּחֲגָבִים הַנֹּוטֶה כַדֹּק שָׁמַיִם וַיִּמְתָּחֵם כָּאֹהֶל לָשָׁבֶת

The same word is written here:

Proverb 9:27 : """ When He prepared the heavens, I was there; when He set a circle upon the face of the deep. """

בַּהֲכִינֹו מַיִם שָׁם אָנִי בְּחוּקֹו חוּג עַל־פְּנֵי תְהֹום

Do you see so ? "circle" in Hebrew is: "circle" and only "circle" !

And in all the other languages, the meaning of circle is: circle !.

So, do you want to say that the meaning of circle may be figurative in all these languages ??? this is impossible my friend !.

So, I repeat: this is another verse telling us: the bible thinks that the earth is flat ( with circular border ! ).

PS: do you know who wrote these verses ? and when they were written ? :D:D:D

The same matter here:

The word "corner" means only: corner !

In french it is: coin ..... corner:

Revelation 7 French: Louis Segond (1910)

""" Après cela, je vis quatre anges debout aux quatre coins de la terre. """

The original verse is written in Greek:

γωνίας which means: corners

""" Μετὰ τοῦτο εἶδον τέσσαρας ἀγγέλους ἑστῶτας ἐπὶ τὰς τέσσαρας γωνίας τῆς γῆς κρατοῦντας τοὺς τέσσαρας ἀνέμους τῆς γῆς ἵνα μὴ πνέῃ ἄνεμος ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς μήτε ἐπὶ τῆς θαλάσσης μήτε ἐπὶ πᾶν δένδρον."""

So, the word "corner" is used in all the languages ( among them the original language: greek ) .. there is no figurative meaning ! .. the meaning is only : " four corners".

But the earth has no corners !!! it is spherical !!!

And what is your opinion about this verse in the bible:

matthew 4:8 :""" Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. """

How could he see all the world from the "very high" mountain if the earth is spherical ???
This is not possible my friend !!! ... it's possible just in one case: if the earth is flat !!!

is that true ?! it's for you to choose the truth !

Therefore: Koran told us 1400 years ago:

Quran 79:30 : """ And we have made the earth egg shaped. """

My opinion of that verse is that there must have been a supernatural occurrance in order for them to see the entire world all at once. Also supernatural was in getting them to the highest mountain because I don't think they climbed up it....do you?
What I find most facinating about the first few verses of that chapter is that the temptations satan is giving to Jesus gradually increase as do the heights they ascend to. (first temptation is in the desert, the second is the highest point on the temple, and thirdly the highest mountain).

Here's a big "what if" : What if the world was flat at this time and later became round? Maybe God just changed his mind at one point and wanted to rearrange things and shape it into a round ball?

Ok if we're goin to pick things apart,

Where in the bible does it say that jesus was born on the 25th of december . . if anything then it says a shepperd was out with his sheep . .. ergo not winter at all, however did the original pagans not celebrate this day as the birthday of their sungod . . but when constantine decided to overtake all pagans to convert the world to christianity, he adopted this as the birthday of christ.

and islam is a more modern religion so the "authors" have more appreciation for science . . . this is true . . but IMO how can we have a modern religion . .. this in itself shows it was all dremt up by people who couldn't explain a phenomenom to decided it was god or allah or whatever the fuck you wanna call him/her

Ok, let me explain better.

People have been in outer space, taken pictures, we KNOW for a FACT the world is round.

The Bibles Quotes are figures of speech.

Four corners of the earth: Four corners of the Earth is a REALLY old phrase talking about 4 places on Earth that are all as far away as possible from the others as they can be.

The 2nd Quote: This is a figure of speech because it is saying how high the mountain was, it was SO high he could see the whole world.
