Don't Judge the South

I have family everywhere and I would say the people who grew up here, no matter what their political views, are more open and less old schooled

there are of course always exceptions, but to me southerners just seem too cool to be so upset sometimes.

I think its just a supreme lack of "give a damn." For the most part, as long as you're not annoying or hurting them, people just don't give a damn what you're doing.

The south is being invaded by YANKEES looking for jobs. In the south we call them DAMN YANKEES, the ones who stay. I will say this southern woman are GREAT!

Nahh, damn yankees are the one's that move here and then constantly bitch about how everything sucks. I've told a couple that there weren't fences and guard towers at the state line keeping them in, that if they hated it that bad to go back where they came from or else STFU...

Great post Janie!! I'm from Mississippi and being in the Navy I get that crap all the time since I work with people from all over the place. I think the worst one was when I first joined way back in 1993 and had some dude ask me where I was from (my accent tipped him off) and when I told him Mississippi he said, "so how many times have you slept with your sister?" I laughed. More at his ignorance than anything else. I have been in places north of the Mason-Dixon line. Chicago, Manhattan, Philly, Detroit and Boston to name a few. And while I have enjoyed visiting those places I could never live there. Nothing against the North, but I just prefer the South.

thank you, and yes we got beauty on our side :)

i am sure people like to joke, but i really think you can compare it with telling a race joke to some one of that race

Couple of things...and this is not to start a pissing contest or be flippant...just pointing something out.

1. Don't assume all people from the north have the opinions you expressed in your post...a handful of ignorance doesn't speak for the whole...is that not the point you are trying to make? We get just as much (yep same just a handful...) of ignorance from the south about the north and it's ridiculous to broadstroke the whole of it based on a handful of chuckle butts who half the time haven't visited a place for more than a week if at all. (This also pokes at those who say they would NEVER visit a certain country based on what they've read or seen on tv.)

Points two and three coming in next post because apparently this one was too long. :p

2. It goes a lot further with someone when you talk about not being judged based on erroneous assumptions and stereotypes if you don't flip it around and judge a certain other group, in this case northerners...which is kind of a repeat of my first point. It's kind of like saying "Don't judge us! We don't like that and it's not true! But I can judge you the same way I'm complaining about being judged!" That always makes me laugh a little and actually shows more ignorance than dispells it. Irony at its finest.

3. I love southern food...which in fairness, I love all kinds of food...but southern food is phenomenal and so are the majority of the people...People for the most part are all the same at the heart of it.
