I would like to partake of the conversation regarding the issue at hand, but unfortunately, as I have long ago discovered, I am not smart enough for the poll, less any discussion.

Well at least you're honest.

You don't have to be a genius to figure out evolution.

What is evolution and how does it work?

I find it worrying that nearly half the people in this poll think evolution is a fact. it's a theory and however plausible it might sound to you, there isn't enough hard evidence to make it a fact.

sounds like the GOD theory as well :D

Exactly! They are both just theories, no one knows for certain how we got here. I understand people leaning toward one view or the other and the've done well here to debate it and back it up with evidence to support their view. But no one can show solid enough evidence to prove that their view is a fact.

I agree sir!

At the end of the day it boils down to....*dum da dum da dummmm*.......

Well, it's a theory. If your interested in evolution as in "is it possible", you could start by reading this Evolution Wiki link or even easier look at some of those videos that AEF posted in this thread. It's best to approach it with an open mind.

When you look at the crowd participating in this thread there are those who can accept what science tells us and those who due to religious conviction are predisposed to discount evolution as poppycock based solely on faith, without any real facts in hand. :) And a significant characteristic seems to be those who can't accept both God and evolution together as a possibility.

That's not true. One is a scientific theory supported by moutains of evidence the other is a theory in the common " just a hunch" way with no evidence. Evolution has been proven. How do you think we got super resistant bacteria? That's evolution on a micro scale.

Exactly, it's a theory, not a fact. If it was a fact, there wouldn't be debates among rational and intelligent people, like this going on.;)

The sun rising tomorrow isn't even a fact, it's just so likely we consider it to be one. My point was the evolution (as the origins of the world) is a theory in a totally different way than god is a theory. They are both theories but are different definitions of a theory.

I'd say the results in this poll shows that people dont consider evolution is so likely it's a fact, given that over half the votes are not for it being a fact.;)

You keep telling yourself that, dude, it changes nothing.
Ok then, by your logic we can't say that the earth really revolves around the sun, since theres "not enough evidence for it". Same for gravity.

There's no such thing as "fact" in the scientific world. Only theories with A LOT of evidence for them.

Yeah but most of those people are scientifically illiterate.

You're absolutely right as far as the debate. But if the Bible said "and God created microbes and allowed those microbes to advance and develop" there'd absolutely be no problem what so ever with our Godly people. It's just too bad when the Bible was written, they didn't even know about germs... :ninja

If I had made up this poll I would not have labeled evolution as a fact, but as a very strong probability... no matter what, when weighing evidence, there just is no comparison when compared to creationism, a very feeble attempt to take a literal interpretation of the Bible and turn it into science.
