but now im confused if soda doesnt mean coke then why ask for a Diet soda. then you'd get what ever one the waiter feels like giving you. here you call it by its name.. i want a coke you get coca cola. i want a pepsi you get pepsi. i want a sprite you get sprite... its all very easy
or we'd say what soft drinks do you have. Or what fizzy drinks do you have? we wouldnt go into a restraunt and say a fizzy drink please. so why would you say soda? to mean all the different types of fizzy drink? :wtf::wtf::wtf:

yeah i never got that either. too much work involved lol thats a south usa thing.
up here in yankee land, if i want a orange soda i just say orange soda
down there. they will say coke and then ask what kinda. then they will say orange or sprite, rootbeer ect. lol

I think you call a lorry a truck in the States and a lift an elevator. A loo is a slang word for a toilet.

We call it a pharmacy too but it's also know as a chemist
The correct term is pharmacy I think, Chemist is someone who dispenses medicine.

I know of someone who used Chemist in a conversation and he explained it to be Pharmacy.
The person that dispenses medicine here we call Pharmacist. As Chemist is someone who works in Laboratories mixing chemicals
Another one is que. They que up instead of line up. In Ireland I have heard people say hoover the rugs.
We call que as queue. And we hoover or vaccum the rugs. Hoover is just a brand of vaccum cleaner.
It's Queue, a pretty cool word. Que is French for 'what' I believe.
