Chick Fil A faces back lash for presidents views on Family Values

Benefits = rights now??

We toss the word "rights" around too easily nowadays. Some people seem to think everything's a right. Wants are rights today. So are privileges. Are welfare benefits rights? If so, then we don't have equal rights because we all don't receive food stamps.

I'm not speaking against homosexual marriage. This is semantics, but important semantics.

So they have equal rights, but are denied benefits. :24

yeah, your right, it was never about marriage.

:urstupid:
you can have a gay marriage in any state. you can find a church that WILL do it. you can have the service and ceremony. you are married. you just do not have the same benefits under the law.

therefore this is about gays obtaining the same benefits, not being able to marry.

You can't taste racism and bigotry.

No church can issue a marriage license, only the state can. The church can turn away a gay couple where the state should not discriminate

Huh??? You need to do some research. Just because you stand in a church and have a ceremony doesn't mean you're legally married. That's equal to me saying that standing in front of the congregation claiming to be a born-again virgin makes me have an intact hymen.

Exactly why the state needs to get out of marriage altogether. No recognition whatsoever. Then everybody is equal, everybody can use whatever the hell definition suits them, and everybody can get married without worrying about panties getting twisted.

And they should get out of the driver licensing as well, right?
And business licenses
And every other license...

:sarcasm

Can you point to anytime in the history of this country where they even thought for a moment that the state shouldn't license such things? Please, I'll wait.
You have this absolute minimalist view of the world where everybody should just hold hands and sing songs. That organized government is the bain of our society and everyone should just do as they please.
As much as I think Minor is wrong with the nanny state, I think you are just as wrong with you non existent government.

If you even once tried to seriously state my position as you see it with out the bullshit rhetoric, I'd be amazed and grateful. It would show me that you're not just coming from a position of fearing the unfamiliar and give me a chance to clarify.

Why? That does not make any sense since marriage is a legal contract originally and still is, it never needed religion in the first place.

But today's "contract" has no teeth. It's as easy to divorce as it is to marry these days. Easier. Culturally, we don't value marriage as a legal contract so much as a commitment of love. I'm simply advocating that we acknowledge the fact and treat everyone equally - gay & straight, joined and single.
