Some people deal with being bullied differently than others

I think Guyzer has dealt with it

That's a fact.

I have dealt with it.

Everyone has I'm sure. It's how you deal with it that counts.

I bet we both still have issues as a fall out for what we went thru.

I do. I've lost a lot of " friends " because I won't put up with one iota of shit from them. That goes for " family " as well.

But despite that I never even came close to offing myself and believe me there were times I could have thought that way.

Same here AA.

I firmly believe that any of these kids that off themselves were headed in that direction anyway. All it takes is one straw and the back is broken. Unfortunately their parents won't accept any of the blame of course. Never saw it coming, my kid was a saint, we never mistreat our kids etc.

Now back to one of my previous posts where I pointed out the kids history. Nobody here has addressed that. I wonder why......

I've been picked on but I fuckin set them straight right off.
We're not talking about being picked on. We are talking about out and out bullycide. Where mostly more than one person is bullying 1 person. So if you were attacked by a group of kids you would have been able to kick all of their asses?

If this is giving you a headache then why are you still posting? And it is 2 seperate things. The topic doesn't state Suicide in America...

*facepalm* Bullycide IS Suicide "due to bullying"... Before 2010 it would have just been called suicide but because two fuckstick writers coined the term it makes it golden.... LOL

I was picked on by a pack.

They could have beat the shit out of me if I had given them the opportunity.

I learned to reduce my exposure to being attacked. I would suggest that most who succumb to bullies never learned how to do that.

Sure we have the internet now also to get picked on but there are ways to avoid that issue also.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bullycide

bullycide (ˈbʊlɪˌsaɪd)

— n
the act or an instance of killing oneself intentionally as a result of bullying

su·i·cide

noun, verb, -cid·ed, -cid·ing.
–noun 1. the intentional taking of one's own life.

2. destruction of one's own interests or prospects: Buying that house was financial suicide.

3. a person who intentionally takes his or her own life.

–verb (used without object) 4. to commit suicide.

–verb (used with object) 5. to kill (oneself).

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/suicide

The only similarity is the end result...Nowhere does it say that suicide is the resuly of bullying in the definition of suicide. People commit suicide for many diferent reasons. However Bullycide is what drives kids, teens and even some adults to commit suicide.

So you reduced your exposure how? Not go to school? I'm not being sarcastic but what options do the kids have these days?

The same option I had and took advantage of. I always stood my ground regardless of how big the guy was or how many there were. Naturally I never won every battle but I will be forthright when I tell you that I always got a few good shots in and they would not be forgotten. It also made some others think twice before they began their tirade and some regret that they did start something. Never once did I ever run home to mommy and for that I have no regrets.

Whether a kid can stick up for themselves or not, why not target the actual problem and stop the bullies. My high school had an email address in which anyone, a witness or victim of bullying could email to and let them know about any situations. We got a lot of education on bullying during high school. I think what we need most is awareness of it, teaching it to kids and telling them EXACTLY what bullying constitutes, and having better punishments in place...making sure that everyone knows to speak up, including the legal system if necessary. Of course this is easier said than done.
Bullycide not only happens in America, but here too. The main high school of my town had an instance of a guy killing himself because he got bullied that much. I just really hate kids who bully, if I was a teacher on playground duty I'd watch them all with eagle eyes.

Interesting fact, over the last several years the amount of Bullying in Schools in the State of Oregon has gone way down, while the amount of fist fights in it's schools have skyrocketed.

First off... Bullycide isn't a word... I've heard of suicide and I've heard of bullying but bullycide is stupid. Fighting is better than giving in... and didn't I make a comment about the parents?

It is recognized term that describes a specific situation leading up to suicide.

This is what I've been saying... Kids need to stand up for themselves. DA's acting like they need to be coddled or something.

you aren't a messed up teen ager at risk for suicidal or homicidal behaviors in response to bullying.

i get picked on regularly. i have a thick skin. and as i hope you noticed, i apologize quickly if something i say that meant no offense if it causes some.

there are problems with encouraging children to fight back. firstly, as isaac asimov wrote, violence is the last refuge of the incompetant. until we humans learn to strive for non-violent solutions to conflict, we will be locked in the never-ending cycles of violence we have been locked in for all the millennia of recorded history.

isn't it time we evolve?

the other problem is two wrongs do not make one right. i very nearly killed a boy who was bullying me in high school because i was jewish. i very nearly didn't graduate and if he had died, i would likely have been tried as an adult and it would have been a very tough self defense argument.

in the eyes of the court, it would likely have been called mutual combat.

I'm jumping in kind of late, but my $0.02 is more related to the cyber bullying type situation. The first thing that pops to mind is Jessie Slaughter. I think that was her name. Does her entire family not realize how much they fueled that fire? Do people not realize that by reacting you are providing more opportunity?

I don't mean to sound cold hearted, but people choose how they react to situations. People choose to be so affected that they resort to suicide. And you can expand that beyond bullying. Sure, the world is a tough place, but there won't always be someone there to hold your hand. People need to learn to stand on their own two feet and fight their own battles, to grow thicker skin and to learn what is worth reacting to and what isn't. No, it isn't easy, but they'll walk away stronger and be better people for it.

This isn't about cyber bullying. That you can turn off the computer and walk away from. Problem fixed...

These are children that were talking about for the most part. Teenagers are still children. So are you saying it's the kids fault that they are being bullied in school and that they don't know any other solution but to take their own lives? I really don't think so but that's how it sounds to me. Kids and adults have to be responsible for their actions good or bad.

This all boils down to the parents, teachers and law enforcement getting together and educating the kids on what to do if being bullied by a single individual or a group of kids. It's our obligation to teach that it's NOT alright to be bullied or to bully.

Well DA the thing about that, at least where I come from is that when Kids go to Teachers or other authority figures about being bullied nothing is done about it, they turn a blind eye and let it go on, kids have to learn to fight back against their bullies, because if they don't nobody is going to do it for them.
