I admit i was one of the yahoos in line at the target last night waiting for it to open...line stretched all the way down the shopping strip that has a target and a large academy sports, from people who are from around here the line stretched from the target door down to past the stevie b's entrance....but i was close to the door and only had to wait about an hour to get in the store...got my one item i wanted and got the hell out of dodge....it was a bit of a rush though, i have to admit

Nope. Only affiliation w/ the Sheriff's Department is that we wear our uniforms. Pay is a flat rate of $10 for barricades or buildings and $20 for dispatch or barricades/buildings/concerts that require mandated officers.

Sorry for the "20 quetstions" Tash, but thanks for answering. Can officers be mandated for this type of assignment or is it strictly voluntary?

It's voluntary. As far as the term "mandated" goes, when it comes to law enforcement, it just means an officer that's been through the academy and has arrest powers. The fairgrounds uses a lot of non-mandated officers for barricades and building security...mandated officers handle heavy traffic points, busy barricades, and the midway. There are 2 local Police/Sheriff departments, the GBI, and GSP who work the fairgrounds along with the Ag Center's security guards. Dispatchers, jailers, and other employees handle a lot of the buildings and barricades. That may change, though, after we had 2 hit by or nearly hit by vehicles this year (one of those being V).

Not that I know of. Never had the issue arise, LOL Most of them jump at $20 per hour.

I am surprised somebody has not banned this in its current form. anytime you get a mob racing to enter it is a recipe for disaster. was it the Who concert years ago where they had general admission and people died from being smothered and has not somebody died at these things in the last 2-3 years.
