A lot of presidents receive this sort of treatment, so this is not a new phenomena in the least.

A lot of US presidents have had their birthplace publicly criticized, as well as their faith, and have been accused of being a terrorist? I used to be into presidential trivia as a teenager, and I can confidently say you are wrong in the assertion this treatment happened to "a lot" of past presidents.

Whether you feel comfortable agreeing this is at least partially racially motivated is your prerogative, but don't twist facts.

And, again, it is a huge jump in logic. You cannot possibly have enough information about all of the people who want to see a certificate to accurately label them as a racist or not.

To clarify for you, I feel the aforementioned criticism has some racial motivation. This is different than labeling everyone who wants to see his birth certificate racist, which I have not done.

Maybe when you finish your education, you will be better equipped to understand such things... :dunno
Well that was cute, Tim. I remember when I was in the 6th grade too!

You're totally fine with the system favoring certain races over others when it is not whites getting helped. Just admit it.

No I referring to a lot of presidents being raked over the coals at pretty much every point in their career. In fact, Obama is getting pretty light treatment compared to some presidents.

well that is nice, "trivia".

I'm not twisting facts at all.

We aren't talking about being raked over the coals, this thread is about very specific criticisms...everyone in the public spotlight gets criticized. These criticisms are of a different nature, reflecting possible racial intolerance.

You can do better than an attempt to insult me, I have faith in you.

To say Obama's criticisms have been similar to those of a lot of past presidents is twisting facts, yes.

Really? because the past few pages have been about Obama being supposedly not being able to get a break from the general public and republicans over various issues that just don't have to deal with race alone. I'm not sure what Obama is being criticized for really matters when in the grand scheme of things, he is still getting incredibly light treatment. So little, in fact, that it is barely worth mentioning.

Want an incredibly hated president that was labeled a terrorist (or something close to it)? Lincoln. How about Bush and Roosevelt? The list goes on. Some presidents were accused of having mixed ancestry, some were accused of having Jews in their family, some were accused of being Communists, socialists, members of secret societies, adulterers, drunks, irreligious, warmongers and so on and so forth. There is nothing new under the sun.

This is a great example of showing that you don't understand what affirmative action is about and why it is needed. And it goes right to my suggestion that you may be able to understand better once you have completed your education.

You want to discuss a topic where you don't even understand the reason behind it or why it was necessary to begin with.

I just think that this whole thing has been absurd. Obama should have released the damn thing during the campaign, and none of this would have been an issue. Hell, it wouldn't have been an issue if he had been born in say, Detroit, Houston, Boston, Los Angeles, or wherever. I still think that it was a political ploy and that he planned on releasing it a month or so before the next election... but Trump ended up forcing his hand. I also think that Trump has absolutely no interest in running for president... this was a publicity stunt on his part, hoping to get some sort of response from the president on this issue.

I know what affirmative action is, Tim. I've taken law classes that dealt with it extensively.

So I'm not sure why you seem to be objecting to the things I have said in that post.

I think it had a lot to do with it. Had it been a white president born in hawaii I bet you no questions of his residency would have come up.

the democrats questioned mccain's ability to run based on him being born in the panama canal

And those who questioned whether McCain was American or not are just as bad.

But do you not see the difference between the two? McCain was being questioned because he wasn't born in the US (He was born in a foreign country on a US military base, so he is American), Obama is being questioned because he is black (He was born in the US so there should have never been a question)

And for those of you that said this was Obama's fault because he didn't show it earlier... Really? So he needs to answer ever wacko out there when they come up with a conspiracy theory? He showed his legal birth certificate and that should have been it.
So if Trump keeps up with the bad student theory, will it again be Obama's fault if he doesn't produce his school records?

I didn't say it was his own fault... I just think he should've released it a long time ago to shut people up on the issue. Which makes me think that it was being held back to be used during the election, but he had his hand forced by Trump.

I do disagree however, that this has all been because he's black. I'm sure there are some people that feel that way, but I know people personally who have made a big deal of it that don't have a racist bone in their bodies. Hell, Obama isn't even black... though you'd never know that from the media coverage. :24:

Obama himself identifies as black, why should the media do otherwise?

Then I think I should identify myself as British, since that's the largest portion of my ancestry. I just think it's silly that people still need to identify themselves as a hyphen-American. Honestly, I think that's a big portion of why racism still exists in this country. Different cultures set themselves apart as "special" because of their ancestry, from Asian-American, African-American, Mexican-American, and so on and so forth. Why can't we all just be Americans?

It's of no importance to me what he identifies as, nor what anyone does. If people feel a sense of pride and cultural connectivity by identifying as Mexican-American, or Irish-American, that's great. I'd like to think America is a place you can embrace those things, without having to lump yourself with everyone else.

Obama is just as white as he is black, so he may identify mostly with his "blackness" but in the end, in reality, he is mulatto.

...if this were the 1700's, yes. :24:
But you're right, he is bi-racial. I guess his upbringing and social interactions led him to feel more comfortable identifying as just black.
