oh...and I have to say (after 10 pages) that I DO agree an atheist would be better educated ON RELIGION than say a Christian, but NOT in general.

I actually read that huge post Kim:eek..interesting.

I like this line...

Gardiner said it is how you are smart, not how smart you are.

Thank you! It took a bit of effort lol.

Yeah I think I agree with him, there's definitely an 'application' aspect to intelligence, whether it is emotional or knowledge or a skill.

lol that reminds me of my dad, he's constantly watching the science channel, thinking it will make him smarter or something but he is not comprehending ANYTHING he's watching.

Exactly, you watch the science channel and you will get smarter, but some people can comprehend the information and process it better and learn it much more thoroughly.
Here's a great example.
Student A and student B both get 100% on a very difficult science exam.
Student A didn't need to study, he was able to pick up the information in class and by reading the book.
Student B needed to study his ass off to be able to understand the same information.
Even though both scored 100% and they both know and understand the information, student A is clearly more intelligent.

I never had to study for anything, I've been accused of cheating several times for not having any notes to turn in with tests.

Sounds like clearly A just has a better memory, especially if the test only tested rote learning.

How is that stupid?

When you try to explain a simple point three different ways and she still can't grasp the concept, you need to just throw up your hands and except the fact that some people are just not capable of critical thinking.

Rote learning is just sponging up information and regurgitating it at exam time, it just tests what you know, not skill application so much. Hence why it would be so easy for someone to master any exam based on it, if they had great memories too.

I think everyone should read about the idea of multiple intelligences - it makes a lot more sense than simply being book-smart.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_multiple_intelligences

You too? Doesn't ANYONE know that intelligence has nothing to do with intelligence????

Your IQ is the same at 5 years old as it is when your 25. So how does knowledge play into it at all? You can read all the books in the world and your IQ won't change

Emphasis on the first part...use-mention error ;)

It seemed like a fair point to me, 2 people going to sit an exam, one reads and re reads the course work one remembers everything from the class. Stands to reason that he has a better memory.

Lol I have sat exams with no study, simple exams based on knowledge and rote learning. Hardly studied and did well in it. Not a hard thing to grasp.
