....and here's why: Tim and I can both make points in a civil fashion, which is a hallmark of intelligent debate. We're not existentialist coffee house philosophers, we both understand the issues and on some level see both sides, because things like this are rarely black and white. Relativists cannot do that......

I can always respect that. It's the mature way.

Bout 9/11. The world was in awe just hearing and seeing that catastrophic and unfortunate event on the twin towers and others perpetuated by those terrorist scum resulting in the loss of so many brave and innocent lives. There are no words to aptly describe that. I will never forget those images as long as I live and my heart went out to ya'll as any other right thinking person.

The speeches were indeed emotional as were accounts from those affected. Going to check out the link to that speech you gave.

I agree with GP on dubya'. He's an extremely divisive president. IF you can even call him a "president".

I disagree with a lot of what GP said, but thats for another time.

Although, I still contend that half of our problems in the middle east are because of our long presence and influential power in the region. America is NOT some center of righteous justice. Often, we are as guilty as a lot of other countries of terrible things.

AEF, you're right about something for a change. :eek

These people have been killing each other for thousands of years, back to the time of Moses, and I don't know if it's ever going to change. The more we stick our nose in there, the more it's going to get popped. The only region that is even close to that kind of deepseated hatred and civil and military strife is the Baltics. If it weren't for our dependence on foreign oil, I'd say we need to take a total isolationist policy in the Middle East. As it is, the region has such an unfortunate combination of global importance and stark raving lunatics, we need to be around. Believe you me, if the region had nothing but sand and nothing underneath it, we wouldn't give a HOOT. But we drive, so we care.

And while I agree that the US is not a center of righteous justice, I do believe we have a certain sense of responsibility in world politics as far and away the most powerful nation in the history of mankind. And as importantly, an obligation to use that power in a judicious manner. Sometimes we don't do that so well, but most of the time we do.

BUT, your constant harping on the US being a terrorist supporting nation, being guilty of heinous things, having a terroristic military, using oppressive foreign policies to impose our horrible and imperialistic will on the world, et al is irritating. I don't know if this is your intent or not, but you really come off like you don't like the place, like you're some foreigner who thinks it's a crap country or something. Honestly, I was never sure if you're even an American citizen. Now don't get me wrong, I applaud your unfailing willingness to question authority - it's one of our most sacred freedoms - but you really seem like you enjoy badmouthing the place. :dunno

Quick question: do you believe that the USA is the best combination of wealth/power/technology/freedom/civil liberties that the world has ever seen? Combination is the key word.

Wait, I have to kiss the US's butt to be considered a citizen? I don't enjoy pointing out America's many short comings. I don't, and I wish I didn't have to. Although, it is my duty as a free citizen of the world to point out all injustices done by all countries and to call them out on their BS. Nations who perpetrate crimes need to be bad mouthed.

In due honesty I could care less if you find what I talk about irratating, no offence is meant by that. This stuff needs to be brought up. People can't be NASCAR sheep anymore in this time in history.

Yes, I do think the use is a good combination of things, I love the US, just not its leaders and various policies.

I'm tlaking about the sheep in America. People who just go about their daily lives not caring what happens as long as they get their SUV's and starbucks. People more worried about who won in the game last night more than world events. People that are uninformed to the point where they will believe anything the government puts out. or what FOX news tells them. Thats just a very breif summary of what I'm touching on.

I'm still not seeing a NASCAR tie in that isn't stereotyped and prejudicial.

No, you don't have to kiss American ass to curry favor as a citizen. That wasn't where I was going with it. It just seems that you are so consistently negative that I wondered if you actually lived here. It's pretty fucking great, despite having a nincompoop in it's highest executive office.

None taken. I know what you mean and you're right. The kind of stuff you rail on is definitely the warts. You're just so over the top with it that it seems like you hate the place, that's all.
Free tip: it's "In ALL honesty..." not "In DUE honesty..." plus you missed a comma after that, but I don't want to split hairs. B- post LOL!! (Jeez, I hope I my spellcheck is working!) :24:

Agreed (snicker). We just have to be thankful that the country is a) not a dictatorship and b) it's not run by a bunch of slack-jawed coffee house philosophers who think that just because their mommies and daddies paid for their overpriced blue blooded educations, they're sophisticated enough to make racist, intolerant and stereotypical statements and think it's going to slip by someone's hair trigger for that crap. ;)

Me, too. I cannot WAIT for the 08 elections!

Well thats the thing, I'm very cynical and pessimistic when it comes to the subject of government. It's a habit. One that I do not think is bad.

Meh.....as much as I'm going to basically be hysterically happy when Bush leaves office with his gang of cronies, I just hope the next president is better.....

Different president, same government.

I have a job.

And yes, thats what I meant by it.

Why, do you watch NASCAR?
Whether or not I watch NASCAR doesn't matter. Try to follow me on this.

There are about 75,000,000 NASCAR fans (NASCAR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). You lumped them all into one group.

There's roughly half that number of African-Americans, 36,6000,000 (African American - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). If I were to call that smaller group "ignorant n-words", you would undoubtedly question my statement even though you aren't a part of that group.

Generalized, prejudiced statements are wrong, as you've admitted in the past. If I used one, I have no doubt you would call me out on it.

Consider yourself called out.

That many fans of cars taking left hand turns all day, huh? :yuk

Its a figure of speech really. If i wanted to lump all NASCAR fans into one group, I would say "All NASCAR fans are sheep." What I said was "People can't be NASCAR sheep anymore in this time in history." I'm in no way labeling all NASCAR fans sheep. A person can not be a sheep and still watch NASCAR. I'm just poking fun at a uniquely American culture sport to identify a hallmark in America that people seem to pay attention to more than the world around them.
