Hmm no I really don't agree I'm afraid. A country, your relationship to it, is highly arbitrary, your relationship to your countrymen equally so. By being proud of your country it implies a negative, which is forced on everyone else not in your country. I don't see the need to relevance for that in this day and age. And, if you take it to it's logical conclusion, which many people do, you end up with all manner of horrible behaviour.
Out of interest, why are you proud of your country exactly? Is it something specific?
I'm proud that my country successfully established a republic that has been able to last for over 200 years and is a model for many modern democracies.
I'm also proud that America is the most diverse country in the world and that many different people are able to live together peacefully. I'm not saying that there isn't racial tension, but our country hasn't collapsed because of it, which is the case in many other nations.
As a whole, we generally enjoy a good quality of life.
I love the fact that America is also very spacious and geographically diverse.
That's all I can think of right now. Honestly, I just like living here and think what we have in America is very unique, and in a great way.
