I LOVE morning doves, there my absolute favorite bird (well... as long as raptors aren't included)

I have rehabilitated a few, and even the wild ones are the sweetest little things :D

Hey--- just for future reference, I loved the lighting and everything, and I liked the angle, but you should get a few shots from one angle and then try going around and finding a new angle. it can be difficult to move around with this kind of subject, but some of those pics could have been master peices if you had been able to take them in a different angle.

Just giving you some constructive criticism :)

I make no claim to be good at this so any input is always welcome.

There were no options in these pics to get different angles. The doves were 20' away from my doorwall straight out from it. I was lucky with my dogs that once I opened the door the birds did not fly off.

The robin was taken in the middle of the woods with thick brush. Most of it with prickers. Plus there was a valley to go thru and I had my dog with me.

That's the other thing about birds: Luck. I would have loved that robin picture with some more clouds, but it's not like you could wait around for some to appear!

Thanks Guy

This is a nature preserve that has about a 10' wide path cut thru the woods. Some of it is pretty thick too and while I can hear birds I don't typically see them. The Robins stay in the open but the rest are perched in the trees and I have no idea what they are although I can hear various ones. This guy jumped from branch to branch and I could only get on one side of the tree.

They are beautiful birds.

You got to keep trying AA. That's how I get my shots and they are never very easy.

Unfortunately most people don't appreciate that aspect of photography. They just think... well lookie here Martha. That guy just got a shot of an eagle picking up a fish from the sea, how nice, we see it all the time. Martha, why is it he can't get a cardinal picture when it's sitting still? Dunno Bob, maybe he doesn't like 'em as much. Well! What kind of a photographer is he?

I have no patience. And I am too lazy to study up. So it is on the auto most of the time. I never was a book learner. I need to find a club or somebody with the hobby and go out with that person and take pics and get hands on advice. If I do it a few times I will be fine. Reading in a book and then going out every couple of weeks don't cut it.

I agree with you but auto can work just fine. The hardest thing for me is to go walking for a couple of hours and not get a decent shot. All I ever ask for from an outing is one nice shot. If I get it to me it's worth the effort.

This nature trail is only a few minutes from my house. less than a third of a mile to the near entrance. I do not go there as much as I should.. Once you get in the path winds around and it probably close to a couple miles if you go along every path. There are deer in there but I have only seen one. It jumped into the bushes and stood still. I had jut purchased the camera tried to take pics but it needed a manual focus due to the brush. Would have been a decent pic but the autofocus got confused.

I just got to thinking about what I posted. I get really pissed of by peoples nonchalant attitude towards wildlife shots and all gaga over landscape stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like landscape / scenery stuff but wildlife of any sort usually can't be duplicated. If they only knew how much effort was involved and how lucky someone is to get a shot of some wild creature vs taking a pick of a mountain or stupid creek maybe they would change their minds.

In the end I shoot for me and if someone likes em that's ok. It's also ok if they don't.

I remember that picture. At least you gave it a good try. If you get out often enough you'll get the shot.
