The whole "renters vs homeowners" concept is bogus. Property tax is paid on the house. One can assume that a portion of the rent cost is used to pay the property tax on the rental house. The money still goes from the person living there to the school coffers, but it passes through more hands is all.

Exactly. Renters pay taxes indirectly.

You cannot argue with a liberal, its pointless. Then they will argue about apartment renters not even realizing that someone owns that building and is paying taxes on that property, all paid by, yep, you guessed it, the renters.

LMAO How I know some of this is true. I will also counter that you cannot argue with a conservative either. I have found them to be just as deaf and dumb. I am generally extremely moderate, but lean to the right...most people on either end don't listen to what the other has to say...

I would agree. I feel I'm more Independent and don't necessarily agree with one side or the other on everything. They are all idiots, politically speaking anyway.

Exactly...

That's what makes this law total and complete bullshit.

So what if a child is going their that's from parents who are in this country illegally? They rent, right? So they are also paying school taxes. So the bullshit argument that the "legal" citizens of this country are paying with their hard earned money to pay for "illegal" immigrants is just that, bullshit.

So why do we need the schools to check into the background of every student?

The problem is that not ALL school funding comes from the local property taxes..... It's a complicated system at the minimum...

Though I know people abuse the system with children, I think children should be protected from hunting illegals at all costs.
This should be about the grown adults who make the choice to do illegal things, not the children in the middle, even if it costs taxpayers in the meantime of finding a real solution to this problem.

It seems we are tackling this valid immigration problem like a person in a canoe with a hole in the side scooping water out with a bucket instead of plugging the hole. I do believe that tougher regulations might reduce the influx of immigrants and "plug the hole" on it's own, but I haven't seen (maybe they exist and aren't as public) enough propositions regarding really making it desirable to come here legally. Maybe I'm naive but I do think it's possible to do so.

I think as long as a company will hire an illegal immigrant, we will never fix this problem.
Put away the cheese and the mice stop coming, yanno?

So illegal immigrants don't pay state taxes when they buy goods?
They don't pay any payroll taxes?

The majority of school funding comes from local property taxes, second on the list is from state sales tax.

Who ever wrote this law is an idiot with a political agenda. Why would you write a law that you know damn well will be struck down in the courts? It's nothing more than a distraction that will cost the tax payers millions.
But as long as it makes you feel better, I guess it's not a complete waste of money

I completely agree with this...

And you can tell that they really don't care to find a solution, they just want us all fighting amongst ourselves because the solution is already withing their grasp.

Take a look at that controversial law that they tried to pass in Arizona. It was complete racist bullshit that wouldn't do a thing. Yet there was a law already on the books in Arizona that required EVERY business to use e-verify before hiring anyone. Only 6% of businesses complied and the governor didn't do a thing to fix the problem. Like you said, remove the ability to work and they will stop coming.

And verifying does not mean a whole lot. We had an employee that was here for YEARS..., good worker, nice guy. We had done ALL the checks were supposed to... INS shows up one day... he's illegal... the US Customs label is still across his locked and I bet it's been 2 years since this happened... he was in DEEP shit too... We lost a great employee and had done everything we could.... A good employee that we wanted around got deported... It's a fine line with no right answer out there...

All this law is doing is creating paperwork and additional red tape for school administrators & support staff. It will be overturned in court and the state will spend more money defending it. Nice job legislators. How about passing an education budget and state budget instead.

How do they do that when they have all these illegals causing their budgets to swell? :)

I'm confused, how are illegal immigrants being issued a social security number to pay any payroll taxes? Illegals work under the table and don't pay ANY payroll taxes, yet receive healthcare when they go to a hospital because by law cannot refuse to see patients, regardless of status, ability to pay, etc.

Have to start somewhere, just shrugging your shoulders and saying well it is what it is, is not a solution to a problem. Sooner or later, the people will speak and this stuff will become law, not legend.

There is a game they play every year. The normal session when they should pass the state budget and the education budgets they spend on this type tripe. Then the governor is required to call a special session to get those budgets completed. The special session means they make additional pay and per diems for ever how many days they are in session to complete those things. If those days were not paid days then they would do their job and be done. This is the same body of politicians who gave themselves a 60% pay increase within the last three years when everyone else was suffering with this economy.

Its a wonder how they get their jobs...Oh yeah, they are voted in by the people. Makes you sick how that happens, right?

If you were told you had to go to work and not get paid for a week, would you do your job any faster? I do not agree about the pay raise though, so we can agree on that. It should have to be something that gets voted on by the people.

If I was given a priority list of what I had to accomplish within so many days or work additional days without pay. Yes, the priority list would be accomplished. They are given a priority list and push those things until the last few days of the annual session and never complete them because they know they will get paid for as many additional days as it takes. I believe their per diem for meals is like $150 to $200 just for meals each day.

The vast majority are using fake SS cards or SS numbers from legitimate people like you and me. These are taxes that are being paid into the system that will never be paid out in the form of benefits.

And yes, there is a large share of people being paid under the table, but they still pay taxes on everything they buy and they are paying property taxes via rent.
