This thread has turned to addiction when that's not the topic.

edit - as with all substances, there's a difference between use and abuse.

Drinking and smoking is an addiction, this thread reeks of addiction. I don't look down on people who do whatever they want recreationally, but when it turns into an addiction and their lives are controlled by it, I frown on it.

You are just oozing with judgment and contradiction. So if a friend of yours has a beer or 2 at a party, he's an addict who can't control his life but you're cool with it?

A glass of wine a day is recommended.
Not a bottle.

Each to his own really.

I think a lot of people who don't do any drugs, or drink lead completely fucking boring lifes.
I'd tell them to get a life, but they seem to enjoy the one they have.

edit: that came out as a more of dig than was intended, each to his own to reiterate.

There is a huge fucking difference between having 1 or 2 beers a night and being an addict.

You need to look up the definition to addiction. Having one or two casual beers is NOT addiction. Drinking enough beer to make yourself puke, or getting DUIs or beating your girlfriend because you're drunk off your ass all the time IS an addiction.

HUGE difference there that you really need to learn before you tell me that I'm judgmental and contradicting.

what i said earlier deals with the addiction side of drinking, aka drinking too damn much. Don't make your assumptions and conclusions first.

The definition of addiction is having a physical dependancy on something actually.

What you described is sometimes the byproducts of what some addicts might do, but not all - not by a long shot.

Quit bringing up addiction ffs.

That's not the topic of my thread.

Ok fine. You can have your thread, but when you bring up addicting drugs and alcohol, what the hell else could the topic cover? Sunshine and rainbows?

I'm done, this thread makes no sense and apparently nobody really knows what the fuck you're talking about.

Christ, there's already one other addiction thread out right now. Why would I create another?

I really don't see what's so hard here for folks.

Addiction is different subject matter completely.

This forum is full of drinkers from what I've seen, yet none of them are really caring to elaborate on their thoughts.

i dont have a problme with social drinkin i think binge drinkin ( not addiction but is abuse) is a problem especially in scotland.. there are alot of underage ppl bnge drinkin on our streets.. to the point where they cant walk.. or they are passed otu in a bush or what ever.. im not so much concerened abotu the drinking..but the natur eof binge drinking is that u have 1 night where u get off ur face smashed.. what does concern me is the vulnerability of these ppl who are outside in such a state.. open to any sexual preditors, muggers etc

Well, most people drink I think--I do, but I don't do it to excess--haven't been drunk in a long time. I usually drink a glass or wine or two a few times a week or beer when its hot or I'm very thirsty. Occasionally I will have a Margarita if I go out for dinner.

I don't really see a problem with people who drink more, as long as like Original James said they don't let it become an addiction where it controls their lives. When you are looking forward to heavy drinking, I think that's a problem because even if you are not physicall addicted (yet) it can lead to that or you can lead to serious health problems. That's my opinion on it--moderation is the key.

I think you'll find that drinking to excess correlates strongly with age--that is the younger people here (20s) likely drink a lot more than people in their 30s or 40s. The reason are due varied, but mainly I think its due to maturing and also due to the fact you can't recover as easily anymore and it gets old waking up with a splitting headache and being hungover.
Do you feel you're any more or less of a risk than someone who were to snort a few lines of coke here and there?

Perhaps this will clarify where I'm coming from.

I have a dick of a fuck older brother, who does his best to make himself seem to superior to anything that stands near him, including family. Myself - I have a history of drug use and he's always done his best to hold that against me. Well, stud the muffin has 4 DUI's at minimum that I'm aware of, yet he still finds it makes his penis large to ridicule anyone who's taken part in recreational drug use (past or present,) alcohol excluded of course. Me - squeaky clean record.

I find a lot of those in law enforcement think the same way as him.

Hence, my attempt at discussion with the forum.

I drink, socially.

I do not do drugs, nor allow them anywhere near my house. I will not be around them period. If I am somewhere and drugs come out, I kindly excuse myself.

I do not see the point in doing drugs, as they have screwed up a few people near and dear to me. I will not allow myself to be in a situation that could get me in trouble with the law either. I don't see the point in drugs, but to each his own. I have my own ways of getting "high" and they don't involve chemicals or plants.

Are you one who frowns upon drinking and drugging? Maybe you drink but think anyone who smokes herb is a complete loser? Perhaps you believe alcohol's only for those lacking a personality? I'm curious to hear your opinions and reasoning behind them.
Yes. I do not drink nor drug. Drugs and alcohol ruin your brain.

No, I don't surround myself with alcoholics either. My friends and I drink responsibly, and I don't feel as though I am putting myself or anyone around me in trouble with the law when I go out and catch a buzz. If I was out every night getting blitzed, then I would see that being a problem.

Alcoholics=addicted to alcohol.... and I thought this wasn't about addictions, so I didn't bring that up

At least I'm not out breaking the law when I go out and have a few drinks, seeing as how I am over 21 and not operating a vehicle afterward...

I drink alcohol... I don't give a fuck if a person smokes weed but if you are doing hardcore drugs then you are a straight up fucking idiot and a loser to boot. *awaits members to get on his ass like a rabid dog*
