The worst part is the false information being passed on Facebook, the Facebook pages that are sharing photos related to the shooting for likes, and such. I mean, really?

yeah, is just speculation. That ought to be a crime, even on FB. It's misleading the public.

People love to live their sheltered lives wrapped up in their warm security blankets until something like this happens. Hey I'm guilty of it and as sad as it may seem I am not phased by the whole ordeal. I'm empathetic that it happened but I'm tired of hearing about it.

uhmmm

I don't think I lead a sheltered life. That said, I don't expect some whack job to go to an elementary school killing 6 year olds.

It made me cry when I saw it tonight and it just made me cry again. That particular song almost always brings me to tears, anyway (although they cut out my favorite part), but I thought it was a beautiful tribute.

As for what others have said...I am very touched by the tragedy and absolutely repulsed and sickened that so many lives have been lost. Having said that, much like 9/11, I can only listen to so much before I'm completely emotionally drained.

As for whether or not having armed guards in the schools is a good idea...just a few days before this happened our local high school had a gun recovered on school property. Nobody was injured. We have School Resource Officers (armed) in almost every school in our county. It's not the first time a weapon has been recovered and it certainly won't be the last...but, knock on wood, we've never had a casualty. The only "shooting" I remember happening on school property was a kid who made a "noisemaker" using a milk jug, pennies, and ammo.

I can say we had an armed guard in my highschool, and we still had a shooting...and this was before columbine. now, granted, it was a personal beef and the shooter stuck to his target and his target only, but it still was not prevented. Look at armed guards in banks, and how often do they just get taken out first? I am not syaing don't do it, but dont assume that is the end of the problem and the only solution

There has been so much bad info passed in the early days of this story, however my understanding is that the doors were locked and the shooter shot out a window to get in. I'm not sure about if it were pistols or an assault rifle or both that were used. Anyway, if we are talking armed guards, easily one might not be enough. And it seems that something will have to be done about building security. The real challenge seems to be laws and regulations that will make a difference, not just go through the motions. However, my impression is for short term, force must be met with force. I don't like saying that, but if you expect an armed person to storm a building whether it be a school or a mall, armed personnel must be there to oppose them because even if you fortify schools and create safe closets for every class, there are still vulnerable times at the start and end of the day when armed personnel will be required.

I believe the information provided in this case has been some of the worst ever. No consistency in the stories.

and we cannot blame twitter - the crap belongs to the networks, in a rush to be first, in many cases they were wrong

twitter just highlights how bad the reporting by the networks was

I know the first report I heard was 1 or 2 dead at an elementary school. A lot different than the truth.

Dick's Sporting Goods removes guns from shelves following Connecticut school shooting

A major sporting goods retailer has pulled all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Conn., according to a report on CNN.com.

Twenty children and six staff members were fatally shot Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown by a 20-year-old man who then took his own life.

Dick's Sporting Goods has also suspended sales of certain semi-automatic weapons from all its stores across the country.

No guns will be available for purchase at the chain's location in the Danbury Fair Mall, which is about 13 miles west of the school.

Dick's said its decision was reached out of respect for the victims and their families "during this time of national mourning," it said in a statement.

It did not say how long its ban on gun sales will last. There are 511 Dick's locations in 44 states, according the company website.

My first thought:

dickless move. The guns are not the issue. Psychos loose on the street is the issue.

Gun sales surge after Connecticut massacre
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says it set a new record for single-day background check submittals this past weekend.
In San Diego, Northwest Armory gun store owner Karl Durkheimer said Saturday "was the biggest day we've seen in 20 years. Sunday will probably eclipse that."
In southwest Ohio, from dawn to dusk a Cincinnati gun show had a line of 400 waiting to get in, said Joe Eaton of the Buckeye Firearms Association.
