Obviously people are preparing for more gun laws. Although the murderer broke existing laws and was kept from purchasing additional weapons because of existing laws.

According to police, Head O'Meadow School, located at 94 Boggs Hill Rd., was closed to students Tuesday due to a security threat.

Absolutely nothing. Let's just allow the killings to continue and increase. We are all powerless losers.

I got some phone calls the last couple of days on people asking about guns.

For those who don't shoot or have any guns, it's becoming a world wind right now.

Sad to say, John's pic of the one guy holding his gun is pretty accurate in todays climate.

I just e-mailed some friends on where to buy some guns online if they wanted to spend the money.

Guns that were going for $700 are now going for at least a grand, and that's if you can find them. I just let a gun go recently for what I paid for it ($650) and now people want $1,000 for the same gun.

I must admit, I found a decent sale on some shotgun ammo and just spend a pretty penny for 12 gauge, 20 gauge and 9mm ammo.

Tried calling a couple of local gun shops and you couldn't even get through during the entire day.

Heck, people are even showing on the gun forums looking for a place to buy. I give it another month and I doubt you'll be able to find a "black rifle" anywhere, and who knows where ammo costs are going to go.

Fred, I believe the problem is that the boy in question who did the killing could of most likely purchased a gun himself if he was so inclined to do so. The fact is, his mother should of kept those guns locked up due to his history. Again, the issue IMO is the fact that too many people who shouldn't own a gun do.

And I think it merits posting again at the top of the page. I do wonder how many people will put themselves in high interest credit card debt buying up black rifles and ammo. Hope they all have good safes to secure them. I fear thousands more idiots just put all of us at greater risk.

We were discussing the gun control issue in the parking lot after work this morning and it hit me...

Advocating banning guns to end active shooter incidents is akin to advocating banning cars to end drunk driving incidents caused by habitual violators. The end result is that w/o treating the alcoholism, the problem still isn't solved.

Everybody wants to talk talk talk about what to do to stop these things from happening but that's ALL they do, is talk. And then 2 years later another 20 people are dead and the cycle repeats.

Okay John. It is tough to find an answear to reslove this problem. How do you prevent these acts ? What if they took ALL the guns away from everyone ? With the exception of the law ? Close every single gun shop ? Problem sloved right ? Well no that is not fair is it. That is ridiculous. Any ideas there smart ass ? Let me guess I would not be able to comprehend what you want to type. So post a witty picture and call me an ass clown. Or maybe we are uneducated here is CanaDUH.

This is true about people just talking - but action works. Drunk driving deaths have have dropped from over 26,000 in 1982 down to around 12,000 today. If I recall correctly, gun deaths are now just slightly higher than DUI deaths, but just barely. What that tells me is that we can reduce gun deaths just like we reduced DUI deaths. DUI deaths were reduced through driver education and increasingly severe penalties.

So - what can we do to reduce gun violence? Lots of things. Weed out people who should not have guns in the first place. How? Here's a partial list of suggestions:

1. Require a gun ownership application process. After an initial background check, applicants must take a written exam and practical competency tests along with an accompanying fee for training and pay a fee for the process.

2. Require an annual recertification / continuing gun safety education process.

3. Mandate all private sales to require a transfer of title and transfer tax to be completed in person at a central location like the local tag office - just like private party sale the sale of a used car.

4. Increase security at public schools by posting a highly trained police officer in each school and replacing glass doors with steel security doors and security locks and a camera system.

5. Require an annual per-gun tax on 100% of gun owners to pay for it all. There is an estimated 200,000,000 guns in the United States. A $5.00 per gun annual levy would yeild $1,000,000,000. That would pay for all the security renovations police officers and training.

I don't disagree with your suggestions.

That said, I sold most of my guns and the paperwork accidently got lost in a fire.

And you'll have to forgive my lack of confidence in the government to perform those tasks that you've mentioned. Government agencies also tend to grow a gameplan all on their own doing things that they weren't initially created for.

When you buy online through a private seller, it's usually]
postal money order, NOT credit card LOL

Ever heard of a credit card cash advance? Take the cash and go get a money order = credit card debt.

Just got off the phone with a buddy. I talked him out of buying an Arsenal 5.45 with 8 mags for $1,400 because he doesn't have anything.

If he has a credit card with a cash advance feature he can get it.

Ultimately, as a country, we have to decide how to keep idiots away from guns while allowing the those who have some brains to own them. That said, I'm certain everyone thinks like me thinking they have a brain. The only thing gun laws really do is drive the price sky high for the law abiding citizen. Had a guy the other day on the radio mention that if the assault weapon ban was back into place, the tradgedy at the elementary school would never of happend. That is PURE bs as a bayonet wasn't attached to the rifle to be used for killing.

Hell, I'd be willing to bet that every non gun owner has no clue what was and wasn't included in the assualt rifle ban in the past.

We both agree that Feinstein's assault weapons ban is political asshattery. See my post above for suggested solutions.

I understand and share your lack of confidence in government - however - if you saw the tag agencies work in Oklahoma, you might change your mind. They are a private sector/government interface. I just bought a used car last Friday at 3:00 PM and concluded the deal before 5:00 PM with the title transferred and my new tag in hand. It can be EASILY done.

I did burst out laughing at that one.

Funny thing, as much as a gun nut some people consider me to be, I don't own one single AR.
