What really saddens me is that at least four brave people tried to stop him, but being unarmed, couldn't do so.

Maybe, but then again, if he had hit armed opposition he would very probably have offed himself sooner. Seems to be a modus with this type. Shoot innocents, then off themselves once armed opposition or response is detected.

i wonder if deep down these kinds of tragedies are needed by us weak mortals, to remind us of the sanctity of life, the need to take nothing for granted and to express love as often as we can

if we lived in a society where these things did not happen, i suspect we would become blasé

Excellent. That really gives food for thought. Our high school has several armed police on site.

Nobody is prepared unless they have gone thru countless hours of training.

People love to live their sheltered lives wrapped up in their warm security blankets until something like this happens. Hey I'm guilty of it and as sad as it may seem I am not phased by the whole ordeal. I'm empathetic that it happened but I'm tired of hearing about it.

For anyone who has Yahoo as their homepage, it's chock-full of news video and stories of a very personal nature now daily.
O'Reilly had one of the little girls on his program last night.
Something about his way of attempting to draw emotion out of her rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm tired of all the speculation. The authorities are moving slow and the news media are so hungry for details sometimes it's like they speculate instead of waiting for the offical acount.

The worst part is the false information being passed on Facebook, the Facebook pages that are sharing photos related to the shooting for likes, and such. I mean, really?
