The Mayan Long Count Calendar has predicted thousands of forecoming events such as the creation of stars and various other astronomical alignments; it has also predicted the end of this World as we know it on the 21st of December 2012, ending a 5,125 year long cycle.
Many proposed theories support this cataclysmic event taking place, one of the most famed being that of late apothecary Michel de Nostredame, (Nostradamus). However, his verses were written in code, and so interpretation of them lies solely with the one who reads them.
Other theories go as far as to say that the World will end in 5079!

Personally, I do not believe the World will end, and that will be my own problem on that date if I am hit by a flying fireball.
What do you think of these premonitions?

I don't really get fret up about these "End of the World" dates that people tend to come up with. It is a way of frightening the bejeezus out of everyone, if it does happen, then at least I won't go around panicking the shite of everyone and myself

My calender ends on the 31st December 2011 :eek Maybe the world will end then.

But I don't really think the world is going to end on 21/12/2012. Mainly because my 23rd birthday is on the 23rd December 2012 and everyone has to be alive for that. Be a bit of a downer if everyone is dead.

Doubt anything will happen, a lot of "end of the world" predictions have failed to come true thus far and there is no reason to think this will be any different, and LOL at anyone thinking the events in Japan are a sign that the end is coming, it's not even the biggest quake that's ever happened, and Japan has a long history of earthquakes.

:homo:

Nobody was predicting the end of the world with the boxing day tsunami and chernobyl etc.

Actually, to be fair there were a few, but they were fucking idiots! So same applies now.

If the Mayan's were so smart, then how come they didn't predict the fall of their own civilization?

I seriously doubt that a people who weren't even able to develop the wheel are somehow able to predict the end of the world.

They had the wheel, but they used it for toys and such.

They were mountain people remember, the wheel isn't so useful up there.

They weren't advanced, but then they weren't unadvanced either - they were just different.

Regardless of the opinion...something crazy is going on with our world. Don't get me wrong, their have been wars and tragic events going on since before mankind. It just seems that over the course of the past few years...those events are closer and closer together. I don't necessarily believe in people's predictions, especially when it depends on how those predictions are interpreted. But some of the predictions have been right almost to the day...scary...makes one wonder...what if?!? Either way...I really hope I'm not here if and when the "End of Days / Catclysmic Event" takes place.
