What the hell?

I'm off to wikipedia, I need to know more about the Mayans.

This doesn't mean I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt though. The Mary Celeste had a disappearing crew but we don't use their ships log to predict the end of the world.

I think something big might occur too, if a global population is here believing that the world will end in 2012, that 'collective thinking' might have an impact on something...

Very true. Quite often I have heard of similar cases wehre people believe that something will happen so much that they in turn cause this even to occur without knowing at times. Though I was thinking on more of the lines of that "big thing" being worldwide alien contact. That would shake things up a bit here on Earth. Hopefully we do not do something foolish and start a Planetary War.

Does this ever spark of Y2K but on a grander scale. :24:

On 12-12-12 thousands will die like they always do. That's guaranteed. Thousands will also be born like they always are. That's guaranteed. The world will still be here as it is every day. That's not guaranteed but my money is on it. Will I be one of those that the Grim Reaper hasn't approached yet? Dunno but I sure hope so.

That basically answers the whole "WORLD IS GOING TO END" theory. Kewlie Kewl summarization as well.

It will for everyone someday.

I doubt it. There are many more years to come and predict when the world is going to end. Also, let us not forget that ignorance is plentiful in our world today. One cannot win them all so to speak.

I have to admit that I find it a bit hilarious that the world was suppose to end so many times and still stands. If anything...I believe the fall of mankind shall be our own doing and not from some mere predictions stemming from books, tablets, or ancient hieroglyphics.

camping is especially hilarious. this is his second go around. in the little bit of background reading on this that i've done, i've also learned that the entire seventh day adventist sect was built around a string of false prophecies by their founder. jewish history is ripe with false prophets and messiahs.

but it's also ripe with meticulously transcribed witness to great miracles all the way through the last days of jesus that ring true. i have some real problems with what came after the crucifixion and how the church/state empires have exploited the books through the ages. there's a whole discussion topic in the why's and hows of which books were canonized or rejected by who over the ages.

my spirit has shown me visions of many different possible endings. the ones that worry me most are the same as the ones that worry you, mass destruction due to human incompetence. the mysterious animal die-offs and recent natural disasters are troublesome because they are clustered around areas of high population density.

any number of things can happen to cause cascading events resulting in a catastrophic decline in human population of malthusian proportions. already, the vaunted western medicine doctor/priests are having serious problems with bacteria mutating faster than they can come up with new antibiotics they haven't become resistant to.

i'm rooting for an advanced race of humanoids that has been hiding itself from us for thousands of years to let us evolve a bit on our own showing up the mother ship in a blast of trumpets and a flying orchestra and chorus singing kumbaya.

It seems you missed my point. What I meant is that everyone will die someday. On that " someday " when a person dies the world comes to an end for that individual.

Well I would not have put it in those words, but I am with you on the whole "Alien Arrival" event. It would be kewl to see that happen, but something tells me if it does it is not going to turn out well the first go around.

I "sit" corrected though I now understand your point. I would "stand", but I am too lazy at this point in time.

It is only "stupid" when someone can not be open minded or respect others people's beliefs as well as ideals no matter how it may differ from their own. Just my own opinion though.

I respect your right to sit around pissing your pants about something which isn't going to happen and there's nothing you can do about it, anyway, it's no skin off my nose. Personally I've got more productive things to do.

If you had read any of my posts, which clearly you have not, you would see that I am not "pissing my pants" about anything to be quite honest. I am merely listening to other people's theories and exchanging my own in turn. It is not a major worry on my mind, but it is good to discuss thus why the thread was made in the first place. I am glad you respect my rights though as I respect your right to sit stick your foot firmly in your mouth due to the lack of reading for the most part and misinterpreting what is going on in this thread. Then again, that is just my own opinion as usual.

You're obviously taken my post out of context. I wasn't referring to you specifically but you in a general sense. It's not possible to stick my foot in my mouth by saying that something isn't going to happen when it isn't.

Obviously I only read what you had written and replied to it as I saw fit. Though if I had misread the post then I shall apologize to you in advance if that is indeed a misunderstanding on my part though you did quote me which led me to believe you were talking to me directly, but I still do not think others are trying to "complain" or "piss" about it either. I just feel that they are seeking answers, others theories, or just wanting to discuss the "mystery" of it all. And I would respectfully disagree with you that one cannot stick their own foot in there mouth by saying that something is not going to happen when it is not going to happen. Something shall happen, but as to what exactly...that is still up in the air for grabs. Now, if you mean the world shall not end on that date then that is a more understandable opinion. But remember as always...it is just your own opinion. Which I respect to be quite honest. I, too, do not believe the world will end on that date though I do believe something else might occur. So we agree to disagree. Again, my apologies if anything else.

No problem. I'll wait till that date when nothing major out of the ordinary happens on it that has serious repercussions for mankind, bump this thread and then we can see who has put their foot in their mouth.;)

The Mayan Long Count Calendar has predicted thousands of forecoming events such as the creation of stars and various other astronomical alignments; it has also predicted the end of this World as we know it on the 21st of December 2012, ending a 5,125 year long cycle.
Many proposed theories support this cataclysmic event taking place, one of the most famed being that of late apothecary Michel de Nostredame, (Nostradamus). However, his verses were written in code, and so interpretation of them lies solely with the one who reads them.
Other theories go as far as to say that the World will end in 5079!

Personally, I do not believe the World will end, and that will be my own problem on that date if I am hit by a flying fireball.
What do you think of these premonitions?

hope it dont im getting married on the 12/12/2012 lol
